alright so maybe sutton shot herself in the foot there but she didn't expect for elena to have a gift in hand waiting to be received. they were just talking about a hypothetical, a daring accusation that sutton herself doesn't find to actually be true... until it's confirmed right to her face that her friends remain confused. "you... this is for me?" she speaks out slowly, hands reaching out to touch the perfect wrapped present between them. "i'm not so sure i deserve this anymore after what i said but i would never be mad at you, elena. do i get a hint?"

"how the hell did you even get hurt like that?" seth looks at them with furrowed brows, eyes fraught with concern. "take a seat." with a sense of urgency, he leads them to the sofa and takes a seat next to them. fortunately for them, he's no stranger to the act of patching others up, having done it frequently ever since his childhood. she had to be cursed, that was the only explanation in her head. she'd never left her keys behind at the hospital before, and the one time she did - there was a raging storm, and her roommate was away for the weekend. nibbling at her bottom lip, her eyes landed on the house next to her own. she hadn't officially spoken to them, but they were a little less intimidating that her neighbours on the other side. summoning every bit of courage she had, she walked over to their door. quickly knocking before she changed her mind. "hi... i know this is rude and we don't really know each other but... i left my keys at work. would you mind if i sat inside until the rain clears a little and i can run back to get them?"

margo didn't want to be a dick. with her fingers wrapped around a complimentary glass of wine she tried to think of something clever to say about the artwork she was standing in front of but she couldn't. nothing about the piece spoke to her. she thought the painting was just a bunch of lines and brightly coloured geometric shapes on the canvas. with a sigh she turned to the person who asked for her opinion. "i've got nothing. i can't think of anything deep to say about it ; it's a pretentious mess of squiggles. i guess i've got to hand it to the artist for passing their kindergarten lesson on shapes?" her last sentence was a question as much as it was a snarky remark. "what do you think?" , she asked the stranger.

perfectly set tables with ornate covers over the chairs, big platters with tiny portions of goo and stuff, the slow sound of strings barely heard over chatter and glasses clinking. zoey weaves through the throng of somewhat-familiar faces, the neck of a champagne flute in each hand. the bits of conversation she hears are nothing interesting ; blah blah shareholders, blah blah backpacking in europe, blah blah. she's managed to avoid her parents so far - yay! from the edge of the marbled dance floor, she spots nehir waiting where she'd left her - double yay! she flutters her way, lips splitting in a grin when they've locked eyes. "oh god, i was scared for a sec that my mom had found you and gobbled you up." she hands off a flute easily, the touch lingering as she takes a polite sip of her own. zoey situates herself beside nehir, an audience to a fancy-pants party in swing. "you look way hot, b-t-w," she quips against the rim of the glass. "the color you're wearing suits you. gorgeous."

ren had woken up to an empty bed, feeling annoyed, she climbs out, throwing on a tshirt and shorts. she pads down to the kitchen, where she's greeted with the other and she can't help but smile, "i thought you'd gone".
