Biting the bullet and doing search on sports (like, how one would go from college soccer to pro soccer) and it turns out that they have their own draft (oh hey I learned about that on the gay hockey show nice).
So yeah, there is the MLS Superdraft. Reddit disagrees about your chances of getting in from a D2 school (some say you cant, others are like yeah you can) and since my character is in a D2 school and I create this world, guess what he is gonna.
What is interesting about the drafting process is that the various gay hockey things i have consumed (check please and heated rivalry) make a fairly big deal about being a first draft pick (cuz it means of course you showed off mad skills and everyone was like ooooooh that guy!!! We want that guy!!!!)
However, it also means that the team that gets you is the team that like, sucks the most. Kind of a double edged sword there, isnt it?
Like, yes it means YOU excelled personally, but youre now being chosen by a team who is fairly crap, which is why they desperately need new talented players.
Whereas the reigning champs are picking the guy who came like, last in the draft. Or toward the end, at least.
Probably there are people who dont get picked at all. And getting signed to a team in the draft doesnt even sound like its a "wooo now i am a pro player in this sport for suuuuure" type deal so gay hockey sort of lied about that.
Do you think that causes any contention? That like, you being the best now has you stuck with a team that is considered not good? Where as a player you consider worse than you will not have the same pressure because he is joining a team of already talented players who just won the championship last year?
Could be a fun dynamic to explore, unless I am thinking about this wrong.
Toronto has no winning culture. A Toronto team hasn't won anything since the turn of the century and you're out here talking like the Blue Jays invented "culture".
