Hatched
A tale of a young woman who got too high. My best friend and I sit in my childhood bedroom and try to hit a broken cart, to fix a long-lost art and maybe mend some broken hearts. This turns into a competition of who will get it to work first. You've guessed it. Next thing I know I'm exhaling the Canadian wildfires into my room. I can hear the saxophones approaching in the distance. It's time to buckle up...literally.
We hear a phone ring, and it happens to be the company that is dropping off my friend's car from across the country. Within minutes we have to meet this gentleman and retrieve the car, which in turn means I have to drive him there. The high is just settling in, and I haven't smoked in AGES. *Cue breathing exercises*
Being the responsible adult that I am, I make my friend drive my car. As we pull up to his home, his entire family happens to be outside on a neighborhood walk. OF COURSE. Oh, and their son is driving my car? Perfect. I muster up the courage to get out of the passenger side and manage to speak to them. From what I could gather, only a few sentences were spoken. I was thankfully able to escape to the end of the street where my friend's car was being taken off a 16-wheeler. As this is all occurring, I receive a phone call from my cousin. A deep breath is had and I answer. She's going over snack options for the movie night we are supposed to have later that night. I completely forgot. I can't focus on anything because she is yelling at her child at the same time as I am trying to tell her I do not need any snacks. Believe it or not, I receive ANOTHER phone call from a friend that is at the Tame Impala concert and said she would call when Djo (my fav artist & actor) was performing. And I've done missed the call.
In a split-second decision I hang up on my cousin because I can't hear a thing and call my friend back. Mind you, I am on the side of the road next to a 16-wheeler. I walk away from the chaos and all I can hear is Djo begin to sing. I put the facetime up to my ear and just sink in that moment. I get back in my car turn the AC up and close my eyes. In that moment I feel fucking GOOD.
" IM CRAWLING OUT OF MY SKIN. SAW ME THROUGH THE EYES OF THE WORLD. "
As I listened to these lyrics and moved my body to the rhythm and beat, I felt my heart rate begin to calm and my breathing slow down. Did I look insane to the members of my friend's family? Absolutely.
Eventually the song ended and I hung up the phone. Now I'm back to reality and realize people are still outside the car. I had been acting suspicious for an uncomfortably long time, and I had no other option than to operate this vehicle. So, I blasted Egg in my car, put the windows down and locked the fuck in.
" YOU JUST GONNA LET FEAR TAKE THAT? " NO, I AM NOT.
All of these events occurred while I was on Mars, and it just showed me I can do hard things. A girl that accidentally got too high and hatched into a badass.
Thanks Djo.
xoxo
