Another public event for Armitage and Ben to do their obligatory spiel for the press and show the strong union between the new Republic and remnants of the former Empire.
As their potential upcoming political marriage is already rumored here and there publicly- and inofficially planned for years, they stay in contact, but rarely meet outside of those occasions.
Armitage (17/18), about to graduate academy, is not a fan of crowded festivities, but little Ben (11/12) and him got along nicely so far as they both are rather shy and not into huge numbers of people.
Accompanied by Archex, cadette Hux is getting situated at the posh royal venue, looking for the ones he has to be seen with by media. Since their last meeting, about two years ago, they only had a few holocalls, so it will be nice to catch up, at least, Hux thought so.
But right now, he surely wished he could mingle a bit more with 'the pilot'...

Remembering their age gap, Armitage calls himself to order and adheres to Archex advice and go through the motions and necessary show for the press.
As all the known names in the publics eye do, at least one or two rounds of classic dances await. Of course he can dance, and of course, so can Ben.
That does not mean that it can't become very awkward.

Puberty is easy on some, and rough on others.
To Ben, it surely feels like he's the only one going through it. Like he got all the brunt of it, that others were spared. And the Padawan cut does not make it better- at all. He sometimes hates Luke for pushing that on them in the name of uniformity.
Tai does not even have hair!
Neither does Hennex!
Nor do Vasheen, a red skinned Twi'lek and Cyliark, a reptiloid!
And Voe just rocks that look!
It's just not fair!
Looking like that feels especially bad, since Armitage surely sails through it like it's a breeze. Being as beautiful as last time, porcelain skin and ... slightly disassociating eyes?
Fair, he has to dance with a child - of course the young adult wishes to be elsewhere, Ben completely understands that.
(I'm so sorry Ben. So very sorry. Stay strong, little Ben, you're a late bloomer and will grow out of it. )

Armitage's soul has left his body.
Ben just wants this evening to end.
Six years age difference don't seem to bad in the grand scheme of things, but right now, they feel like an unbridgeable gap.
(... so, so very sorry Ben... ... like I said, you'll grow out of it... you'll be able to look him in the eyes at some point)
