Now dear Théodred lies in darkness, most loyal of fighters. The sound of the harp shall not wake the warrior; nor shall the man hold a golden wine-cup, nor good hawk swing through the hall, nor the swift horse stamp in the courtyard...
“Who then can say with assurance that if Melkor had been held in bond less evil would have followed? Even in his diminishment the power of Melkor is beyond our calculation. Yet some ruinous outburst of his despair is not the worst that might have befallen. The release was according to the promise of Manwë. If Manwë had broken this promise for his own purposes, even though still intending ‘good’, he would have taken a step upon the paths of Melkor. That is a perilous step. In that hour and act he would have ceased to be the vice-regent of the One, becoming but a king who takes advantage over a rival whom he has conquered by force. Would we then have the sorrows that indeed befell; or would we have the Elder King lose his honour, and so pass, maybe, to a world rent between two proud lords striving for the throne?”
*Gifs were made from this video
Even though I absolutely love Manwë for who he is in canon - the just, noble, and selfless king of Arda - I have to admit that Dark!Manwë in an alternate universe is a kink of mine; a manipulative, controlling, and ruthless tyrant who, in his efforts to defend the world from his brother’s evil, became something similar to him.
Also, Melkor would absolutely fawn over Dark!Manwë imo; that’s all the excuse I needed to make this gifset
MAKE ME CHOOSE ↳ @cestpasfaux24601 asked: frodo baggins or boromir
"He was a tall man with a fair and noble face, dark-haired and grey-eyed, proud and stern of glance. His garments were rich, and his cloak was lined with fur and he had a collar of silver in which a single white stone was set; his locks were shorn about his shoulders. On a baldric he wore a great horn tipped with silver that now was laid upon his knees."
MAKE ME CHOOSE ↳ @iwillnotserve asked: rivendell or lothlórien
"He saw no colour but those he knew, gold and white and blue and green, but they were fresh and poignant, as if he had at that moment first perceived them and made for them names new and wonderful. In winter here no heart could mourn for summer or for spring. No blemish or sickness or deformity could be seen in anything that grew upon the earth. On the land of Lórien, there was no stain.”

MAKE ME CHOOSE ↳ @iwillnotserve asked: rohan or gondor
Gondor! Gondor, between the Mountains and the Sea! West Wind blew there; the light upon the Silver Tree Fell like bright rain in gardens of the Kings of old. O proud walls! White towers! O wingéd crown and throne of gold! O Gondor, Gondor! Shall Men behold the Silver Tree, Or West Wind blow again between the Mountains and the Sea?
MAKE ME CHOOSE ↳ @shieldmaidenofsherwood asked: shadowfax or the eagles
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from [his] halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
“With hope or without hope we will follow the trail of our enemies. And woe to them, if we prove the swifter! We will make such a chase as shall be accounted a marvel among the Three Kindreds: Elves, Dwarves, and Men. Forth the Three Hunters!”
