When itâs time to let go
There is nothing wrong with you caring, but expecting others to care because you care, isnât something always afforded to you.
Youâll know when itâs time not to care and itâs time to let go, when:
The time and energy youâre putting in isnât reciprocated;
Youâre trying too hard to make the relationship work;
Friends or family stop making you a better version of yourself;
When you canât count on the other person;
When youâre being ignored;
When youâre dealing with abuse;
When they have a hidden agenda;
When their life is about them;
When itâs clear your issues are being ignored;
When they donât want to know and they donât have your back.
When it comes to others you must stop caring, wanting things to be right, when it is clear others couldnât care less about you. Relationships must be mutual. Relationships shouldnât feel strained or be difficult.
Take comfort in those who care about you. Focus on what you can control. When it becomes to feel stressful, when everything about the friendship becomes a challenge and you know in your gut itâs not working, itâs time to walk away.
If you want to stop caring, itâs time to make changes to your belief system. Not caring wonât make you heartless, or mean-spirited, but rather youâll free yourself from the burden of feeling the need to continually please others and not feel guilty about it.
Not everyone is worth your time, energy and support. We usually do that at the cost of our own mental health. Be honest with yourself. The truth is you are the one thatâs worth your time, energy and support.
