Hong Coffee & Bakery, 349 E Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755
Hong Coffee is a new Hong Kong style café. The name doesn’t really fit, since I didn’t see coffee or baked goods. They did have some cookies that were probably baked. The sign for cookies was in Chinese. It’s a small place.
The menu includes noodle soups with your choice of noodle, lo mein, rice plates (including Hainan chicken), sides, and 13 kinds of congee. They’re known for their won tons. Check the refrigerator for drinks and housemade desserts like tofu pudding, steamed ginger milk custard, etc.
Preserved egg with shredded pork congee ($9.95): homestyle and very good, thick and flavorful with the most shredded pork that I’ve received in bowl of pork & preserved egg congee. Topped with cilantro and fresh scallions. Hot and comforting.
HK milk tea: strong, milk, and not too sweet
Steamed ginger milk custard: It didn’t seem like custard to me since it was like a thick creamy liquid, lovely ginger flavor though
Seating is very limited (three tables).
