OVERNIGHT FRENCH TOAST CASSEROLE
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 1½ cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- Powdered sugar, for serving
- Maple syrup, for serving
DIRECTIONS:
1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
2. Arrange the bread cubes evenly in the prepared dish.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until well combined.
4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are thoroughly soaked.
5. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top.
6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to absorb the custard mixture.
7. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
8. Remove the plastic wrap and bake the casserole for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
9. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
10. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup on the side.
