thinking abiut corruption avatar martin blackwood. the hive. it loves him. no, better, it needs him. in the corruption he is truely loved in a way he has never known. to be needed, needed by the hive so utterly that without him the worms that dig into him would shrivel up and die. he loves it. because martin has never been needed not really. he’s always been an afterthought, an inconvenience. maybe after a while some learned to love him, but they never needed him. and what martin wants is to be useful. he doesn’t want his loved ones to leave him when they decide he’s more trouble than he’s worth.the hive could never leave him. they’ve burrowed so deep into his flesh, absorbing his nutrients and using him. he is helpful like this. and maybe he also finds security in the fact that they would struggle to live without him. perhaps that isn’t quite healthy but he’s been disconnected from the concept for far too long for it to hold any true weight.all that matters is that the hive loves him. he can feel them you know? he can feel them writhing under his skin, reminding him he isn’t alone anymore. as they sing their honey sweet song to him.
he’d only ever heard the song of spiders prior to this. and it had been magnetic. but now he realises, it wasn’t what he needed. the song of the web enticed him. gave him a little, but not enoguh, never enough, so that he’d follow into the path they lay out for him. the hive is different. it sings to him. directly. pouring all of its love and want into its beautiful, beautiful song. it buries him in affection and need and he wonders how he ever lived without this all consuming love inside him.
the web never loved him like this. it always retained its distance to ensure it kept its options open. it reminded him of himself, before the hive, spinning his lies to get through life and because of that never understanding true closeness, always keeping others at arms length so he isn’t discovered for his fraud.
but he let the hive in. in, deep into his flesh, into the centre of his being. where they have access to all of him.
and the hive loves him, and martin loves the hive.
