you trailed behind abby as you both and owen step off to the side away from the others. you never thought you’d see ellie again. and you most definitely never thought you’d ever see her like this. she glared at you from her spot on the floor where she was held down. you attempted to disregard the old man's limp body as owen and abby's whispered voices persisted, muffled by the ringing in your ears.

"end it. now." owen's stern voice pierced through the chimes. abby stared back at him before moving back into her previous position above the mans mutilated body. his left eye was swollen, nearly protruding from its socket, and blood had soaked through his hair and clothes. it was a horrific sight honestly. you couldn't blame mel for being huddled in the corner while she clutched her pregnant belly.

"joel, get up." ellie's voice broke through the silence as you all stood in anticipation waiting for abby to finish the job.

"joel, fucking get up." when he doesn't respond, ellie’s gaze darted to you. your throat dried up as you pick up on what her eyes were pleading for; she was asking for help. the lump in your throat fell straight into the pit of your stomach and you felt as if you were finally about to throw up the knot that had been forming since abby got back.

when you fail to respond, her eyes shifted from pleading desperation to anguish. you couldn't help but turn your back on her. the guilt was consuming your entire being. how could you just fucking stand there and let this happen to her? but it's not like you owe her anything. you hadn't seen each other in years. hell you thought she was dead! how were you supposed to know the guy abby had dedicated the rest her life to finding had also happened to be the same smuggler that was supposed to deliver ellie to the fireflies under marlene’s orders five years ago?

"please stop!" you bit your lip until the taste of copper reached your tongue as you resist the urge to turn around and look at her. god how could you ever look at her the same again?

"please don't do this..." abby raised the golf club above her shoulder.

"y/n!" abby paused.

how does she know your name?

"joel please get up!" abby let out a grunt as she swung the club. ellie screamed as the blood spurted from his temple, the left side of his forehead was bashed in. the blood trickled from his face and pooled onto the floor beneath him. it passed through everyone's feet as it began to ooze in ellie's direction. it continued to taunt her as it crept closer. dark red. almost black. a black hole that reflected her torment back to her. it reflected the life that was once inside of him. that life now pooled on the soiled floor.

"burn in hell, pendejo." manny spat on the corpse. ellie panted as she struggled underneath nora.

"i'll fucking kill you!" manny's gaze drifted over to her. he gripped his gun and stomped over in ellie's direction. not that you noticed of course. no one seemed to be paying attention to the breakdown you were having in the corner.

luckily owen stepped in between manny and the girl on the floor. you don't remember too many details after that. after the group had decided not to kill ellie and tommy, you all gathered in the kitchen upstairs. while the others talked you couldn’t get your mind off of the passed out girl downstairs. flashes of your past pulsate through your brain at light speed. mostly the bad parts of course.

“hey”

you’re pulled out of your trance when abby approached you.

“yeah?” you cleared your throat with a shuffle of your feet as you attempted to seem like you weren’t tripping balls just now.

“can i talk to you for a sec?” she didn’t wait for a response as she gently guided you from the small of your back to a less crowded area. you already knew what this is about.

“y/n!”

her voice echoed through your mind.

abby paused with her hands on her hips. it looked like she was working up the courage to ask but you really hope she didn’t.
