The first photo is of a female, the second is of a male. The MÄori word for this species is titipounamu or tÄ«titipounamu (according to Wikipedia. Please feel free to correct me!!).
Day 197 of DDD! The Titipounamu! Also known as the rifleman they are an endemic bird of new zealand. They are new zealand wrens who are their own things, unrelated to the wrens and the fairy-wrens of australlia.
