Wicked -> The Marvelous Land of Oz?
A friend challenged me a bit ago to take my knowledge and figure out how to make the regular Oz lore and the Wicked Oz lore play nice together. And I accepted that challenge. A lot of things were easy, but because of how things end for our lovely little scarecrow at the end of Wicked, I was stumped on how to actually connect wicked to the land of Oz. But then I had a brain blast.
So, a few people were interested in how I worked in the bridge to the land of Oz from wicked, and I am ready to blabber, SO-
(I have shortened these to the best of my ability from my mass document, so not all details will be here. And still.. IT’S A LOT. Have fun ig?? If you’re curious more on details, feel free to ask!)
•Ozma’s father was the one left in rule of Oz after the loss of her mother. When Oscar came, claiming to be able to do great magic and with the name of “Oz”, the king was the one to propose letting Oscar attempt to read the Grimmerie. Oscar did his thing, and claimed the title of the wizard of oz.
•Eventually, one of the king’s advisors, Morrible, discovered Oscar’s scam. Instead of exposing him, she made a deal to work with him. With her specialty bound to weather, she assisted him in tricking the great transfiguration sorceress Mombi into believing he was The Great and Powerful to earn her alliance.
•Working with Mombi, they created a plan to usurp the rule of Oz in steps to take it for their own. Before bed, the king’s cup was to be filled with water from the Forbidden Fountain. Once all memory had left him, Mombi would have his appearance changed and taken to Quadling country while she would get to take and do whatever she wished of the young baby princess.
King Scarecrow (Wicked spoilers from here on):

• With Wicked, assuming Oscar still leaves the rule of the emerald city to him, I’m thinking that after Scarecrow leaves the city with an “aha oops IOU. BRB???” note to Glinda to have to watch over the Emerald City, he returns to Elphaba where they try to continue on with the plan to leave Oz and attempt to cross the desert.
• Unfortunately, they find out that the silly curse where Ozites can’t safely the desert is true and have to quickly make other plans. This is when Elphaba brings up the badlands in Quadling Country. Weighing their risks, they decide to try it and make their way to Quadling country.
•Fiyero figured that if they DID run into someone, he could approach them before they found him and Elphaba, that way she would stay unknown and he could distract them or eventually send them on their way. He technically was the KING of the Emerald City, which most Ozians looked to, right now anyway. But that also meant he had to be clever with excuses if necessary. So, starting their trek to Quadling Country, they kept to forests. However, as they traveled, eventually they came across a boy.. And a living, pumpkin-headed man.
• With Oscar, Morrible, and Mombi all sticking to their promises, Mombi kept the child as a pawn to do her bidding and assist her and Morrible in getting whatever information they wished. Changing her appearance as she did the King’s, Mombi changed the princess into a boy that she named Tippetarius.
• Insert Mombi’s abuse to Tip here because I’m assuming yall already know Land of Oz
• However, changing Ozma’s appearance didn’t make Tip any less Ozma. That ancient magic of Oz still ran through Tip. With that said, the one tricky thing was Tip’s small bursts of accidental magic. So of course he had interest in it and wanted to learn it. Mombi would tell him that she’d help him learn magic one day, and tell him that it was very dangerous without proper practice to keep him from exploring it himself. So she used that as something to hold over his head. Mombi would even punish Tip from any accidental, magical outbursts.
• Insert the creation of Jack. Soon after making him, Tip admired his work and went to place the man near the door, a bit off to the side. Unfortunately, before Tip could hide and leave the man to his scare duty, Mombi returned, watching Tip place the pumpkin head before walking up to surprise the boy with a “Trying to scare me, are you?” Tip nearly jumped out of his skin at her voice. After a moment of berating the boy, she gave him the serious threat that in the morning, she was going to just turn him to stone.
• In response to this his own fear of the woman, an emotionally charged burst of magic went out from Tip and to the pumpkin headed man. That’s right, Oz is not back to its “fairy land” weirdness yet, so there is no powder of life here. Instead, Hack came to life from the ancient Oz magic of Tip’s lineage. And that worried Mombi. Mombi had to hide it. And she couldn’t let Tip start to realize how powerful he could be. So she couldn’t do anything with that aside from “Perfect! That settles it. You get to be a marble statue in the garden, and this pumpkin headed thing can be my new help.”
• As night came, Tip did his best to swallow every ounce of fear he had and, with the new pumpkin-headed life he named Jack, escaped. Escaped with the plan to run away and eventually find help. He knew someone who had defeated a witch before and he knew he would be kind enough to help. The new King of the Emerald City. The Scarecrow.
• Rather peculiarly, they ended up finding the king before they even got to the Emerald City. In the forests of Oz, Tip came across the king Scarecrow. Upon hearing what the boy had to say, about running away from Mombi, how he punished and threatened him, and how he held magic he couldn’t control, Fiyero spoke with Elphaba and carefully, he introduced the child to a friend that was totally not the Wicked Witch of the West and was just cursed herself to appear green by the witch.
•Tip travels with them, Fiyero tells Tip and Jack of some discoveries he found out about the Wizard and that they were currently out to try and fix some of those things and that’s why no one could know where they were for now.
• Elphaba is hesitant about it at first, but she does eventually try to help Tip with some magic control as they travel.
• Jack.. tries really really hard to become Fiyero’s bestie because “you look kind of like me!” and insists that they must be brothers. Fiyero wants to lose his mind. Elphaba thinks it’s adorable and doesn’t help.
• Eventually, they find out about General Jinjur who, without the new King Scarecrow there and Glinda completely overwhelmed by having to beebop here, there and everywhere, is planning to take siege of the Emerald City.
• Jumping past a lot of stuff to the end of this bit, they successfully stop Jinjur, and with Elphaba holding Mombi in a metaphorical gun point (she put the pieces together from the word of Animals about passed down rumors and Fiyero’s access to left over notes of the Wizard that she was the last one to have Ozma), makes Mombi spill the beans the Tip is Ozma. Another threat to Mombi later, upon Tip’s consent, Mombi breaks the spell on Tip and returns Ozma to her original form.
• With Ozma now the rightful Queen of Oz, she insists that Fiyero and Elphaba must stay as she still has no idea what she’s doing, is low key terrified, is having to adjust a lot, and knows no one else there that she trusts aside from Jack, Elphaba, and Fiyero.
• She also lets them know that she VERY much is aware that Elphaba was the so-called Wicked Witch and that Fiyero isn’t just a scarecrow that came to life and wants to help them the way they helped her. So with the promise of still being able to help the Animals affected by Oscar’s propaganda as they try to bring Oz back to its origins, Elphaba and Fiyero stay with her in the palace where Fiyero actually helps her figure out the whole ruling thing and Elphaba helps her harness her magic. All here where they will later once again be joined by Dorothy, the new princess of Oz.
Because I immediately wanted to doodle some stuff. And I want to doodle more stuff so. Tee hee?
