Cashel Rock, Ireland's centre of Catholicism, was destroyed in 1647
St Mary's of the Rosary Church in Nenagh, Tipperary, where Shane MacGowan's funeral. Funeral taking place on Sinead O'Connor's birthday.
The Irish singer, best known for her cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U, died earlier this year.
MacGowan and O'Connor had an enduring friendship and duetted together in 1995.
A man who came to watch Shane MacGowan's funeral procession pass through Dublin this morning said the singer "meant everything" to him.
Nick Cave takes stage to perform another Pogues hit
Aiden Gillen's reading is followed by a performance from Nick Cave of The Pogue's 1986 song "A Rainy Night in Soho".
Cave penned a heartfelt tribute to MacGowan after his death at the end of November, calling him a "true friend".
MacGowan's wife speaks during his funeral
Shane MacGowan's wife Victoria May Clarke is now presenting the Context of Symbols.
They include the "Crock of Gold" book of MacGowan's art and lyrics, a Buddha, the tray that occasional Pogues singer Spider Stacy would "bash over Shane's head" during gigs and a Led Zeppelin record.
The audience clapped as a Tipperary flag was produced.
Clarke and MacGowan's wedding photo is also among the symbols.
Roland Conroy, 50, said the Irish punk rocker "embodied everything: James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, William Butler-Yeats".
"A poet, just [brings] a tear to the eye. It's a sad day, it's a tragic day in Ireland. The world mourns," he said.
Irish singer Mundy and Camille O'Sullivan are now performing the "Haunted" duet recorded by Shane MacGowan and Sinead O'Connor in 1995.
Before the performance begins, O'Sullivan pays her respects to MacGowan and his relatives.
"Sending love to Victoria, Shane and all the family, we love you so much," she says.
"We love you Shane forever."
Irish president attending funeral mass
Irish president Michael D Higgins has arrived at the church in Nenagh, Tipperary.
Following MacGowan's death, Mr Higgins described the late singer as one of "music's greatest lyricists".
"So many of his songs would be perfectly crafted poems, if that would not have deprived us of the opportunity to hear him sing them," the president said.
Gerry Adams arrives for funeral
Former Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams has arrived for the funeral of Shane MacGowan in Nenagh.
Irish actor Aiden Gillen gives a short reading from the Bible, sniffing and appearing emotional as he speaks.
He is reading Revelations Chapter 22, verse one to three.
Shane MacGowan was 'massive fan and friend' of Johnny Depp
As a copy of Johnny Depp's record is placed on the coffin, Shane MacGowan's wife Victoria May Clarke explains it was autographed for them.
She says her husband was a "massive fan" and "friend" of Depp.
He was "also a big fan of weird guitar noises", she says
