My other bind for @renegadeguild 's Tiny Books Bang: This fic is riotously funny, and I'm thrilled that I got to bind @hooksbooks 's typeset.

This style where the text is sideways is called a dwarsligger. Octavo is a perfect size for this. It fits so well in the hand and is easy to flip through. I had some scrap marbled lokta, which I used for the covers. Black for Bucky's mostly monochrome aesthetic, with that signature pop of red.

My first spattered edges came out satisfyingly well. Thanks to Renegade for facilitating a great event, I had so much fun! Maybe next year I'll branch out from octavos and do some smaller sizes!

This is my entry in the Renegade 2025 Tiny Books Bang! I was delighted once again to work with @daemonluna who made this very fun typeset. We both were extremely entertained by making as many hot pink accents as possible for this fic. Thanks to the author for agreeing to let us bind this work! WIP photos here. Pictured here are the three finished copies, the slightly larger (and slightly more legible) author copy plus two slightly smaller copies for myself and the typesetter. Luna and howlingmoonrise have already received their gift copies in the mail, yay!

The hooked endpapers turned out very nice on these. I have not done a longstitch like this before (that's the visible thread on the finished spine) and I will do that again for sure! Very cool result I think!

Finding myself in a bit of a binding slump (right after buying a bunch of bookcloth and paper in London, no less) I decided to give tiny books a try. I've made an octavo before, but I wanted SMALLER. So I decided to go with a sextidecimo, which is 16 pages per side of a letter size sheet of paper. And I wasn't going to bind a 1000 word fic, no. I wanted a chonk. So I went with a 24k word fic that I'd already bound and had typeset, The Superfluous Man.

And here's how it turned out:

Okay, that was fucking adorable, but why stop there? So I decided to make it a "tiny book", which, well, I dunno, is even tinier. And now I am closer to my goal of a perfectly cubic book. I'm pretty pleased with how the cover came out on this one. I used the foil quill with my Silhouette.

But not there yet, so can I make this even smaller?

For funsies: every size of book I've made so far, from a tabloid folio to "tiny".

The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity and Mortality is a series of stories told in the format of a museum audio guide, so I staged my photos in a rough approximation of a museum exhibit. (Canadian quarter for scale.)

This particular episode segment is a Pied Piper story, told in overlapping, layered voices, and the typesetting reflects that in a very cool way. I've tried to echo the inside text with the static-style paint on the cover.

One of the nice things about tiny books is that you can use all sorts of scraps of material. Commercial book cloth, title and images stencilled with acrylic paint (I used a site to generate colouring book pages to turn the pied piper image into an outline to stencil), and endpapers are from a scrap pack a friend sent me, picked because they remind me of something you'd see in a kids' fairy tale collection.

Also, I got the sneaky glee of making something for a friend who didn't know I'd picked her typeset. (She was only the one who recommended the podcast to me, after all!)

A few months ago, I participated in the Renegade 2025 Tiny Books Bang (my first bookbinding social project!) and fell in love with @merlinmausi's SUPER FUN typeset for the MDZS fanfiction A Pavlovian Approach to Honesty by Stratisphyre. Now let's be honest, I know close to nothing about MDZS. But I do know one thing or two about Excel, so the idea of an Excel-inspired typeset obviously spoke to me.

My first idea went to the old, massive binders every office has, with cheap plastic sheets filled with printed dashboards and all, and big marker writing on the back. Thus, I prototyped, and it ended... not as satisfying as I wished. I encountered many troubles along the way, and the result is very structurally hazardous. I had fun, but I kept it as a prototype. It's still very cute, and small, and I'm so weak for Relma's bright orange bookcloth.

In the end, I decided to switch ideas and to go even further into the Excel mood and turn the cover into a spreadsheet. I knew a Coptic bind would give the line/row-like aspect I was looking for. I had never done Coptic binding before. There's a first for everything.
