Most tinies engage in trade. There are traveling tinies who have trained mice, rabbits, or even birds to help carry their wares to different tiny settlements. They take food to warehouse tinies, tiny-sized items to anyone who needs them, and bring news of the different tinies to everyone they meet.

Some traveling tinies are also doctors and will visit tinies who need medical help. Most tinies know the basics of health since they do not have hospitals and must rely on each other in case they cannot reach a doctor. If they can find a doctor tiny, which is far easier to do in towns and cities, the doctor will make sure that the other tinies know how to care for the sick tiny. Doctor tinies are also able to take regular human medicines and reduce the dosage to tiny sizes. In this way, a doctor might take a pill of ibuprofen and make it smaller so that a single pill can be used by many tinies. 

Other tinies who travel might be teachers who go from house to house to make sure that tiny children can get an education. The teacher will live with the tiny family for a few weeks before moving on to the next family. In exchange, the tiny family will feed the teacher and ensure that they have a safe place to sleep.

Urban tinies must adapt to their outside environments just as any regular human does. The biggest difference for these tinies is that they scavenge their food and belongings from the humans they live with. Most tinies have their nests in attics or hidden corners of basements, hidden in the walls and behind boxes that haven't been moved in years. Their biggest challenge, unlike their wilder brethren, is to avoid being seen by the humans.

These tinies are experts in the art of refashioning human items for their own use. They don't really need to worry about food or water since they often go on scavenging expeditions at night and can quite easily keep their storages full. Most tinies live in places where they have access to the outside as well, in case the family adopts a particularly ferocious pet such as a cat or a dog. This allows them a way to more easily escape from the pet or even if they have been seen by humans.

Tinies really like to live in office buildings or warehouses. This way, they don't have to worry as much about the threat of pets. In the case of office buildings, there are usually a few storage spaces which are largely ignored. They even live in homes designed to look like boxes of paperwork that need to be stored in perpetuity. The only risk this poses is someone searching for specific documents which might be stored in such a box. However, this rarely happens.

These tinies do not have the benefit of trees to build their homes in. Instead, they either find rivers, lakes, or springs that support trees or they use brush or animal skins to build a home. Some have houses made of animal skins and branches they've harvested, like the stereotypical teepee. The teepee tinies are partly nomadic but typically return to more permanent structures during the winter. The snow structures are built into the ground and are set up to be warm. Through the spring, summer, and fall, they gather and prepare food, returning home to the dirt mounds to store it. Those unable to travel remain at the mounds, protecting the food and keeping the mounds ready for the rest of the tribe. 

The mounds are often at least somewhat near a good water source so that those left behind have sources of water. They store what they can during the big rains as well. During the winter, they collect and boil as much clean snow as they can. This takes longer than most might think since snow is full of a lot of air. Once it has been boiled down to clean water, it is stored outside where it refreezes but is ready for future use. When the tinies are ready to reuse it, they bring it inside, usually a few days before they will need it. It slowly thaws and is ready for consumption.
