I would like to kindly ask you not to pile all Russians into one 'nasty' basket of tinhatters and rape apologists. I know that it's currently the one ethnicity about which it is OK to make sweeping generalizations and still consider yourself a "progressive", but I am pretty sure that Russians are capable of having just as diverse range of opinions as people with other passports and/or genes.
I've always detested the ease with which irvinis as a fellow Russian equals the state of LGBTQ+ rights in Russia with British celebrities being supposedly violently suppressed by their wives to appear hetero. This person is obviously extremely delusional and lives in a fanfiction world, just like all her tinhatter colleagues. They're also not some kind of a representative for all Russians in this fandom or in general. We are not copycat cartoon characters here, in cold gloomy Russia, we can think for ourselves just as well as oh so enlightened fandom dwellers from sunny California or wherever. We can have shitty or extremely correct opinions same as you. In fact, I can confidently state that in almost any given situation on the internet I can say "man, it's always Americans with shitty opinions" and be 99% correct every time, simply because US citizens usually make up the majority of any English-speaking internet fandom. Yet somehow we take all the other tinhatters on individual basis (as we should), but Russians are supposed to be all the same, and not in a good way. Right.
The old trick to check if you're being xenophobic or racist is to put "Jew" or "Black" instead of the ethnicity/nationality or race you're talking about. If you'd still feel comfortable saying it, great. If you'd be going to jail/getting canceled or severely judged for this, then it means that you're being xenophobic to the ethnicity/nationality or race you're talking about.
I realize that Jasper is very young and is still learning, so it's just an advice. I'm not demanding an apology or even for this to be posted. I only hope it'll be read and acknowledged in your future endeavors.
Hey anon! It's me. Thanks for the heads up. I guess I was/sometimes still am pretty biased against Russians, and im sorry, because that's not who I am. I have people close to me who are Ukrainian, hell, i'm half ukrainian and that has definitely skewed my opinions of Russians and Russia as a whole. I understand that not all Russian people have the same opinions, and I'm genuinely sorry if my actions or words came off as such.
It is important to remember that not everyone from the same ethnicity has the same beliefs and values, and im sorry for implying that every russian is the same, because that was not my intention.
