rimworld is a randomized simulation game, the characters are generated uniquely in every playthrough. you start with three "pawns” (which is what the game calls its characters) but its not the same pawns every time, and you can get more as the game progresses. the rules discussed in the article govern the behavior of all characters across all playthroughs of the game (in its current build), not just the three characters the author uses as an example in the opening paragraph
