The League Garrison, present day
Talandriel's fingers tightened around a small, round object. Blinking red and yellow lights reflected off the new fallen snow.
It's on. The signal is strong. Why has no one answered?
She thrust the com device into her pocket with a jerky motion.
Away from the Garrison, without the interference, it has to work.
She tightened the strap of her heavy pack and waited for the sentry to pass.
It's not a desertion. Just a... a leave of absence. Only for a few days.
It had been months since the Celestial Dawn expedition disappeared, but time had not dimmed the memory of Lyrinel's stricken face. Not a day passed that she did not think of her promise to the golden haired girl.
I'll find them, Nel. I promise. I'll look for her first on the other side.
She barely heard the crunch of snow, so loud was the beat of her heart. The garrison gate loomed overhead.
Unseen by Talandriel, an armored Blood Knight watched from the shadows. A gloved hand flexed and curled at his side. Moonlight glinted off cold steel.
Talandriel's hand wrapped around the gate. She exhaled a frosty breath and stepped--
The enchanted runes of her armor flickered in response to the prickle of magic. She turned, one hand closed over the hilt of the double blade sword at her back.
Oblivious to her presence, Magister Sunfire stared up at the stars. A patch of moonlight bathed his features in soft, silvery light. Violet sleeves rustled in a gentle arcane breeze. His shoulders rose a fraction, then fell. His eyes were far away.
Luminel's pale, tear streaked face flashed before her eyes.
The magister is well equipped to face the dangers of Draenor, Miss Pyrestar, and he will not be alone.
For a long moment she stared at Timmelith. At length, her shoulders fell. One hand curled around the communication device.
"I will find you," she whispered, "I promise."
From the shadows, the armored Blood Knight observed Talandriel's return to camp. The runes of his eye spun placidly.
