Fiver blinked at the stranger, curled back and making himself look small just in case. One could never be too sure if someone meant him harm or not, shivering in the cold, he swallowed and attempted to speak.

It was basically routine for him, finding a moment when the other was distracted, and sneaking up with steps that were far too quiet for someone his size. Getting close enough and giving that treasured beak a quick kiss. But today, that routine had gone awry.

Now he stood in front of a peacock, threatening him with an all too familiar blade. Was there some sort of mix-up, or had they forgotten who he was overnight? A large claw reached up to nudge the knife out of the way, not that it’d do much if Shen tried to use it.

☯ 剑胆琴心 ;   On his return from the training hall, the watchful headman of the Jade Palace discovered a peculiar piece of mail on his desk. Shaped in an exquisite origami, the letter contained a very private notification, but only upon direct inspection Shifu could realize its utterly romantic character. Blue eyes intently studied eloquent confessions, reluctant to believe, they scanned the lines over and over again helping the mind to seize the entire meaning. With bated breath, the rigorous master examined the signature and his austere face softened along with his aching heart.

                                        Bartok.

The little white bat evoked an insane abundance of emotions, including fondness and affection. But Shifu firmly restrained those passions not daring to reveal the truth as he found those feelings  wrong from a moral point of view and highly irrelevant. After all, he barely even questioned himself about Bartok's attitude as he considered that frail and lovely creature too pure for those sorts of affairs. Facing the opposite situation precipitated Shifu into intense excitement: partly blissful and partly onerous, for now everything depended on his own answer.

He turned around to see his little friend and quietly reached out his palm for him to hop on. A soft smile on his lips seemed like a good omen.

Charlie just looked up at the albino bat and he couldn’t help but give a small smile and a nod as he watched the door swing open slightly, enough to where Charlie could push his way out. He gave a shake of his dirty and matted fur, giving a small cough as he just sat down, regaining some sort of strength before he decided to continue out of here.

❝Yeah, it’s not a bad thing in any way, just... something I think of in situations like this. Figuring out how people deal with certain things and all that,❞ he responded and gave a small stretch, hearing a few things pop along his body in the process. It was painful, but not as painful as having been trapped in that cage for so long. That had been annoying and he wanted out of there as quick as he possibly could. Luckily, it seemed Bartok was able to save the day and help Charlie keep moving.

❝How’d you know I was here anyway? I would have thought nobody came to this side of the river, especially at this time of year. But, I guess it was lucky you were over here and were able to hear those... quite frank, awful noises. I’d rather not repeat any of that again,❞ he said with a sigh and got up, slowly walked towards the exit door and looked up and down the hall. All clear and there was no one he could hear at the moment. Seemed like they were all clear to move and such.

So, that’s what Charlie did, slowly making his way down a hall trying to find where the actual exit to the building was. So far? Eh, not so much luck. He’d find it eventually, but he knew it might take a bit of time to do so.

☯ 剑胆琴心 ♫ ;  Gracile hand slowly reaches the flower, slender fingers carefully brush against the petals before they accept the gift. Blue eyes were watching the white bat warily as the patterns of grave truth unfurled themselves in his doleful speech. Shifu wasn't angry. Not in the slightest. But it was obvious on his countenance — a puzzled frown grew into an inconsolable gloom — he was worried about Bartok. Preserving silence, the wise and observant master opened his palm for his beloved to nestle upon and took him inside, where they could sit at the table near the broad palace balcony. With one graceful move Shifu placed the flower in a vase and sat down on the floor to release Bartok on the wooden surface afterwards. The lush flower head swayed in the fresh night breeze.

  ❝ From the very first glance at you I knew you were BRAVER than you thought, ❞ the master's wistful speech flowed akin to life-giving water,  surmounting all obstacles on its way to the gentle white-winged floret, ❝ but I could never imagine how truly brave you are, ❞ his long thin finger gently touched Bartok's chest while he was looking at him, ❝ Such a little heart yet there is so much bravery in it... It can get lonely, you're right, ❞ Shifu sighed an tilted his head. He lowered his gaze, lost in his thoughts for a moment.
