it feels more personal than blaming traffic... im sorry girl
having adhd is like "fuck, it's half past noon. that pretty much means it's one o'clock. that means it's lunchtime. that means it's pretty much three. that means it's almost five o'clock, and that means the day is pretty much over and i don't have time for any of the things i was going to do today :( time to scroll aimlessly through social media until bedtime"
ok i think one thing that is quite ⚠️forbidden⚠️ by my ADHD is simply....estimating how long a task takes. even tasks i've done many times before. if you also find time shrouded in mystery FEAR NOT. our investigative reporter (me) is on the case (cleaning with timer)
I don't actually know if many people truly understand what time blindness is and how much it affects in a person's life.
We also get given such awful advice as well, like we haven't already thought of it.
"Have you tried getting ready earlier?", yeah. Obviously I have tried that. You think time blindness gives a shit about that? Absolutely not. What takes you half an hour to get ready, I've already allotted up to 2 freaking hours for, and I'm STILL. LATE.
"Have you tried setting multiple alarms?", yeah I have. But you know what? Alarms make me so unnecessarily angry and panicked that I am now in a far worse mental state then I was before, and now I'm going to this party in an incredibly awful and anxious mood, and still late.
I personally need someone else to help guide me and hold me accountable. I need someone else to accommodate me. To give me the "wrong" times, knowing it'll help me be early or on time.
Time blindness isn't "oh okay, well I need to be there for this time and allow for potential traffic delay for up to this amount of time, so I'll leave at this time to ensure I'm early", and then you follow exactly that. That's genuinely good time management abilities and good effective use of time.
Time blindness is more like "I need to be there at this time, allow for delays, so I'll leave at this time", and then "oh shit, what the hell happened?! Where did the time go? I'm running late. I am praying to the road gods that there is no actual delay and I get all the green lights, as that's the only way I'll get there mostly on time".

I saw this on Reddit today. Time blindness is a real thing. Sometimes I’d be doing something and I’ll have no idea how long I’ve been doing it. Not to mention setting alarms for things that I don’t forget.
I have terrible time blindness. I'm great with keeping a schedule and doing things on time PROVIDED I keep track of what time it is. If I lose track of time everything devolves into chaos.
So, are you "chronically late" neurodivergent OR "overcompensates for the fact that I have no concept of time by being ridiculously early" neurodivergent?
