Tim Minear making it a point to tell us that Eddie jumped off the bridge so that Buck wouldn't is already an insane interesting thing to hear but then you watch 9x13 Mother's Boy and Buck is needling Eddie to get a reaction and he says, "so, if I said, 'jump off a bridge', you would just do it? Oh, you know, actually, I probably wouldn't even have to say it, you'd already be jumping, seeing as you have a death wish."
And then you think about these things together and realize that on some level, Buck saw Eddie jumping into the water to save the tech billionaire as him not caring about his life and whether or not he died, but the truth is that Eddie jumped, not because he didn't care about his life, but because he cared SO much about Buck's.
Buck looks at Eddie at having no regard for his own safety, but Eddie just prioritizes Buck's safety over his own time and time again.
