Lobe-finned fish from the late Devonian. A transitional animal showing the beginnings of the wrist. Tiktaalik lacked the bony plates near the gill region that would restrict head movement. This would give it more flexibility to look around as one of the earliest known animals to have a neck. Tiktaalik laid on the bottom of waterways and capture prey like the crocodyliforms that would come later.
