A few years ago, NPR featured a story from the book The Tiger by John Vaillant. The true story surrounds Vladimir Markov, a poacher who shot and wounded a tiger during a hunting incident. The wounded tiger then stalked Markov for days. It was even seen waiting outside his cabin’s front door.
When Markov eventually returned to his place, the tiger killed him, dragged his body into the bushes, and ate him. Vaillant’s description is so unnerving, because the tiger hunted the poacher “in a way that appears to be chillingly premeditated.”
