When a Disney movie about frogs nails enemies to lovers and yearning better than 99% of contemporary romantasy novels
One of the things that's so great about the want vs. need theme in TPATF is that it's not just about the romance (although this isn't a knock against it). Tiana has isolated herself working so hard to get her restaurant that what she needs is to be able to connect with people again. When her father tells her to never lose sight of what's really important, he's not just talking about their family. He's talking about their whole community. Cooking wasn't just about opening up a restaurant for him--from the very opening scenes of the movie we see that it was his way of bringing their community together. Tiana's heart is in the right place, but she ends up so buried in her work that she loses her connection to any sense of community, and it's only after she's forced to trek across the Bayou that she's able to build friendships and relationships again. That's what her father wanted for her, because not only would she need the support of her loved ones to have any shot of success, she'd also be happier if she wasn't alone.
Naveen also needs community, but in his case he needs to learn how to actually connect with people as an equal rather than as a spoiled prince looking down on them and expecting them to cater to his every whim. Again, it's this unexpected journey as a frog that forces him to confront how cut off he is from meaningful relationships. He not only falls in love with Tiana but he also forges a bond with Louis by sharing his love of music. It's the first time in his life he's had real relationships with anybody, where they're on equal ground and it's about a mutual exchange of trust. It's a humbling experience for him, but a necessary one, and at the end of the story you can tell that although being willing to give up his last chance at a charmed life to be with Tiana is a huge sacrifice, the new version of him probably wouldn't want to go back to the way things were before anyway.
They need each other not just as romantic partners but as friends who challenge each other and are there for each other. They need the connection their respective lives have been lacking because without it their dreams are missing a crucial element for success. It's not wrong to dream, nor is it wrong to work to achieve your dreams, but no one can do it alone
