Only read one book so I cant fully judge as adaptation but as a show...eeeeeeh.
Molina is a solid lead but it never fully commits to either the "cozy town with a secret" aspect or the serialized mystery format.
Also ofc it ends on a cliffhanger.

actually I never thought reading crime fiction would be this fun. i am reading the book about an inspector who’s investigating, but i am also investigating?? like thinking who the murder might be. what has happened in the past. connecting the dots. i really am having a great time

Like come on its got main character who loves his wife more than anything, guy who gets psychic damage from an old poet throwing lines at him, all consuming self destructive guilt, one sided lesbian yearning so bad someone gets murdered, small town othering, near-religious devotion between coworkers, dread, and a significant amount of references to Quebec history
