oh yes, there are actually 4 astronomical events on august 12th around the world. what a day!

i'm not sure if anything from the show fits. maybe the scenes of wang miao and young/senior ye wenjie looking at the sun? you can add a caption like, "do not look at the solar eclipse without proper eye protection" lol

if anyone has any suggestions, i might be able to gif something today.

popping in after another 2 weeks of inactivity to to share something i've been debating if i should share lol. anyways, this is a spreadsheet made by c-ent 叔圈/uncle circle fans. it's the rank of the amount of fanfics on ao3 for rps ships of actors 40+ based on data from july 16th.

even though i don't ship real people beyond brotp, i think it really shows how much the audience like the chemistry between two actors. our fave dilfs ranked #4, which i think is really impressive considering the first 3 ships all started in 2019 or earlier, and we only got to see three-body in 2023.

yu hewei/zhang luyi also ranked higher than a ship that was in a real gay movie (#7 hu jun/liu ye) lol.

another fun fact is both of them have other ships with other dilfs in other shows/films, but those didn't make it to top 20. i think this just tells you that the chemistry between these two is really better than the chemistry between them and anyone else.

i mean, after all, we are getting an entire spinoff show probably mostly because how much the audience liked shiwang in three body, so yep, shiwang is awesome. they are awesome!

I love it!! It's where my URL and profile pic come from, and I'm actually in the middle of a reread of the series right now (halfway through Death's End).

I think my favorite book is Death's End! It's so full of shocks and creative ideas that just stunned me. The first time I read it, I finished it while waiting to get interviewed for jury duty. I was just sitting in the waiting room crying. Luckily they settled before I got called in for an interview!

I don't know that I have a favorite character. It's no secret that the characters can be a little flat, but I really don't mind that. The ideas expressed in the book are so cool that I'll forgive it some weak characterization. Character-driven stuff is great, but I don't mind if some works focus their energy elsewhere.

But that said... Cheng Xin is my favorite POV character, at least. Is a major part of her story maybe an indictment against the author's view of women? Maybe so. But she goes through a lot and feels more fleshed out than Wang Miao, and doesn't have the weird-ass imaginary perfect girlfriend thing that Luo Ji does. We get to see her grapple with her choices and feel guilty. I do wish her scientific background and creativity had been put to a bit more use after hibernation, though!

艾 A. A. also makes me laugh whenever she pops up randomly. And Sophon is actually awesome. Hell yeah lady robot who can go from gracefully performing a two-hour tea ceremony to a badass ninja who slices people in half.

I'll also say I like the Chinese drama better than the Netflix adaptation. I didn't hate Netflix, but... even disregarding the major changes, I can think of a couple of scenes they adapted pretty closely but just did not have the same gravity as the Chinese version (the Cultural Revolution scenes were weak af, and the DO NOT ANSWER scene was just so much more intense in 三体).

Three-Body community is very active this year, and we got these two official art to celebrate Shi Qiang's birthday on July 22nd. It looks like that Ding Yi dragged Dashi to a surprise birthday party, and Wang Miao was there to capture his reaction. And he got really surprised either by the party or that poster or both LOL.

One thing that hints Shiwang on the poster is the two lines right below his name 史强. It says "He doesn't understand quantum physics, but he knows how to get to the scientist".

Three-Body community's weibo account has been posting these daily calendar pages this month with a quote from the novels. Of course on July 22nd, Shi Qiang's birthday, we got a Shi Qiang quote, and it's that iconic bug line. And thankfully, they included Miaomiao in the shot, but excluded Ding Yi LOL. This is definitely the wholesome Shiwang content I need on Dashi's birthday.

I also want to point out that on traditional chinese calendars, you always get today's dos and don'ts (eg. today is good for having a wedding; today is bad for moving). And on Shi Qiang's birthday, it says the day is good for having luzhu which is his favourite food (even his Three-Body game username is luzhu/卤煮). This is really a very Shiwang thing too because they always go to that luzhu diner to meet up and eat.

Since we are already talking about the calendar, on July 20th, it quoted something Wang Miao said to Shi Qiang which is "Your bravery is coming from ignorance", and the dos and don'ts for that day is that you should not bicker. This is also such a Shiwang thing to mention because they bicker like an old married couple all the damn time LOL. We also get the silhouette of Miaomiao's profile and Shi Qiang holding a gun, so this is obviously Shiwang themed.
