Threaded Conversations...?
I’ve seen a couple of posts on here bemoaning the way that Tumblr fractures conversations. I know that Discord is not really that much better -- I mean, you can break out separate rooms by topic, but the conversations in them are not really threaded, in the sense of all of the replies collected by topic in chronological order (that I know of. I don’t really use Discord that much, so there might be ways to change the way it displays information).
(Now I’m going to sound old) Back in the day, we’d use bulletin boards with threaded messages. Someone would post a topic and all of the replies and conversation would be grouped in chronological order. You could separate out broad topics of conversation into separate areas, so as to help people navigate, and there are of course search options, notification options, and so forth (sorry if I see ‘splaney here, but this is a style of social media that’s fallen out of favor and I’m not sure everyone I know has actually experienced it).
But here’s a question for you: I have several website servers. I can easily install PHPBB (a threaded message board system) on any of them. Would there be much interest among my Tumblr TOW community to having something like that (for either roleplaying or just general discussion)?
I hesitate to add yet another thing that you need to monitor but if you are finding Tumblr/Discord/whatever limited (and don’t already have a BB-type place for your discussions) and think this might be useful, I’d be happy to put one up. We could even have separate boards for other fandoms we enjoy (I’m thinking primarily of Fallout).
