night shift || 03
It had been a few days since he had seen her. They hadn’t texted or called, or even seen each other around town. Wes tried his best to lay low, but he knew it wouldn’t take long before he’d have to get back to work. He had to go to the baking night shift, and she was surely going to be there. Looking at himself in the mirror, he straightened out his shirt before heading down the stairs. Passing by others in the lobby of the apartment building, he tried not to make eye-contact with anyone.
He knew he had messed up when he tried to kiss her. It was a stupid and foolish thing to do, and he hoped that she didn’t hate him for it. By the way she reacted, she seemed like she didn’t want to speak to him, and especially didn’t want to be alone with him again. Thankfully, they wouldn’t be alone for the shift, so he didn’t have to worry about that. All he had to do was do his job and follow her orders.
Arriving at the restaurant, he noticed that most of the other volunteers had shown up. After washing his hands, he went to an open station. Wes grabbed the apron and put it on, looking around to see where Sara was. Spotting her going through the recipe book, Wes looked down at the table quickly to avoid eye-contact. Blowing out a breath, he hoped that tonight went by quickly.
