sure, he had employees of the hotel. house keepers, a concierge, a bellhop. but he would always man the front desk. he was always the one to greet the customers and ensure their stay went good. he insisted on it when he inherited the hotel from his mentor. from the front desk, he made sure the hotel ran as smooth as possible. it also made for easy money, being able to allow illegal business to be conducted inside of the hotel without having to watch out for a boss.
it’s where he sits now, flipping through an old national geographic magazine when he sees someone walk in. and immediately does he stand, places the magazine back onto the counter and smiles politely. “ welcome in, ” he says as the man comes closer, eyes catching the badge at his hip. huh. wonder what he wants. “ is there anything i can help you with ? ”
