There is a pause and a heavy sigh that fills the air as the strands between your fingers nearly go untangling themselves. It’s been a while since you had asked Thranduil to let him braid your hair, and a while since you started to braid his long, long, long…long hair. Perhaps you overestimated your braiding skills, or perhaps you felt like you were being too hard on yourself by aiming to make him the best hairstyle you could, even if it meant being out of the scope of possibility.
King Thranduil has always worn his hair down, rarely doing small braids at the side or to move the front part of his hair from his face when he went on rides, but overall - his choice in hairstyles was plainly simple. Once, Thranduil had told you how he had been the practice doll for Legolas’ own braiding skills, and you couldn’t help but imagine him, in all his excellency and elegance, wearing messy little braids throughout his entire head. It made you giggle at the time.
“Something has you distracted, beloved, what is it?”
You looked up at him through the mirror positioned before you both, a small, barely noticeable pout on your lips as you flexed the fingers of your free hand.
“It is nothing, I’m simply thinking of which way to take the braids..” you told him as you pinched the strands in both hands and began to weave them through one another again, continuing the thin braid. It began from his temple, and you planned to join it with another twin braid from the other side of his head. You had planned more, but perhaps it would be best to keep it simple for now.
“What are you thinking so far? You’ve been awfully quiet” you inquired, focusing on the braid. His shoulders rose and then fell, relaxed all the while.
“I am simply giving you space and time to do what you set out to do” He replied, sharp blue eyes watching you, the mirror giving him a bit of the view of the braid in the making. “You need not stress over your skill, meleth nin, you are doing well”.
You huff a chuckle, pressing your lips tightly together before responding “It would be a lie if I said I was not disappointing myself, I had planned a braid more fitting for a king” you told him easily, he had already sensed your want to impress from before, and could probably see the focus and tension in your eyes the more you worked.
“And what kind of braid is that?” He was quick to counter, one side of his lip rising, it almost looked like a sneer wishing to be a smile. “Any braid is a king’s braid if a king wears it”.
“I know, I understand. I just wish I could have been more skilled in the craft”
“After you’re done with these braids, I’ll show you some more ways to braid strands. You’re already skilled as it is, but if showing you some more techniques might ease your mind, I’d be more than glad to demonstrate for you”

“Strange indeed.” Said the King thoughtfully. The group of hunters who'd led him to the newfound development traded a long look. Crouching down, the King's majesty eyebrows met in the middle of his forehead as he studied the newfound addition to his great Elven forest. “And the beasts have returned seemingly unharmed, you say?”
“Yes, my Lord. The bears had retreated into a den and so did the foxes, emerging approximately three days afterwards. All seemed in good health and very hungry.” The Silvan hunter replied.
“Then these must be harmless.” Deduced the King, taking out a thin blade to poke at a dense cluster of brightly coloured fungus.
At least, he guessed it was a fungus. Upending one cluster, he found no roots. The flesh of the mushroom was white and fragrant, pleasantly earthy and rich, with subtle floral undertones that made his mouth water slightly. The smell intensified tenfold upon cutting the mushroom down the middle. The King brought it closer to his nose, carefully scenting for any bitterness or rot.
“My Lord...” A concerned Feren piped up from his spot behind the King.
You offered the Captain a glance full of genuine compassion, without a doubt considering his job to be the most complicated and tedious in the whole of Thranduil's kingdom. Minding Greenwood's fiery monarch was not for the faint-hearted.
“Surely you are not thinking of putting it in your mouth?” You added a dash of sarcasm into your question, equally concerned.
You were sassed right back, eyeroll audible. “It is a mushroom, where else would I put it?” Thranduil straightened up, holding the newfound addition to the flora of the forest impaled on his knife. As soon as his eyes zeroed on you, you gulped. Thranduil gave you a nasty little grin. “What is the worst that could happen? I have the best healers of my realm at my disposal.”
Feren's fingers twitched, a tell-tale sign of his withering self-restraint. You sighed and contemplated the best time to begin backing away.
Thranduil simply raised an eyebrow, a silent challenge. “Worry not, the Kingdom has forgotten of your and Feren's...” Elegant pause, Feren's sigh. “Accident.”
“'twas no accident,” you said defensively. “You gave us your Ada's moonshine to see if it was still good. On purpose.”
Thranduil shrugged as the mushroom was evenly divided into two parts with the help of his knife. A perfect picture of innocence, he held up the treat in his palm, grey eyes sparkling.
“I am NOT doing it, my Lord!” Exploded Feren, and gave into his urge to take a step back. He, more than anyone, knew how insistent Thranduil could get. A seven-thousand year old elf giving huge puppy eyes! And it worked! The Captain shielded his own face with his palm. “Throw me in the dungeons for a fortnight, I care not!”
Contrary to your expectations, Thranduil simply rolled his eyes, and swiftly stuck one part of the colourful fungus in his mouth. Everyone gasped, including you, but the old Elvenking remained completely unbothered.
“Hm,” he blinked after a second. “That is not bad.”
Waves of impending doom washed over you with each contemplative movement of Thranduil's jaws. Looking first to the left, and then to the right, you found no immediate means exit of the situation. It was you, the resident human, and the tree behind you, which your King had no problem with crowding you against. Not that he moved or anything. He was just... Large. And very handsome. And spectacular at rounding his shiny, bottomless eyes with great purpose.
“We must know if this fungus is harmful to Edain,” he said, honey-sweet. You hated that he was right. “According to hunters, there is an abundance of it, and, knowing how curious you Edain are...”
“Ugh!” You shook your head. “Just give me the mushroom. If I die, I will haunt your halls for all eternity.” Obediently and with no small worry, you snatched the piece and stuck it in your mouth, chewing quickly, not even taking note of the taste.
Thranduil's last experiment that involved you and Feren still fresh on your mind, you turned back towards the Halls before you'd even finished chewing. You'd rather be in the privacy of your rooms least intoxication has you do something embarrassing... Again. Thankfully, the King conceded, and after giving the hunters a command to gather more of this mystery fungus, the party set out back home.
It was Feren's turn to offer you fleeting looks of compassion. You quietly smiled back, not feeling anything out of sorts. The ride back was pleasantly uneventful. Not a creature was stirring: even the ever-present spiders were absent in their bothersome scuttling.
Too smug for his own good, Thranduil entered his halls with a spring in his step. “The haunting of halls of Greenwood has been postponed indefinitely, I see,” he said in passing as he shrugged off his outer travel robes. A maid immediately offered him a silver robe of heavy satin which he politely declined. “Nay. The discovery has warmed me plenty.”
You noticed that yes, the weather has turned rather warm indeed and bowed before departing back to your daily business. Mid-way through your chores, a thin, translucent sheen of sweat glistened on your brow as you silently cursed the Vala responsible for such unusually pleasant weather. The Halls had already began to prepare for a long winter with covering unnecessary exits and patching up drafty areas.
What wouldn't you give for a gulp of fresh, cold air! Chores forgotten, you hurried to the nearest balcony. There was one not frequently visited by Elves as it was hidden behind a clever alcove; stepping aside and squeezing through the narrow opening, you sighed happily and deeply as your clammy skin finally felt crisp late night air.
Your shoulders dropped as you exhaled, finally shaking off some of that uncomfortable heat. A tranquil scene of swaying treetops and budding stars over a darkening sky emphasized the calamity of your solitude.
“Hm.”
“My Lord,” you greeted without turning, familiar with the timbre of voice and soft swishing of expensive fabric coming from behind you.
Thranduil's profile appeared within your field of view as he posted up next to you and demurely placed a hand over the stone railing of the balcony. “I was unaware someone had found the secret entrance to my private balcony.”
“Oh,” you froze. “I apologize... I was simply...”
The corner of his mouth turned up. “I take no offense. Indeed, it was quite clever. Even keen Elven eyes miss the opening behind the alcove.” Sans outer robe and clad in a simple but rich ensemble of sateen shirt and velvet breeches, it became evident you'd caught the King in a private moment of relaxation. His brow, usually tinted with concern with kingdom, was pleasantly warm.
You swallowed, looking away. He was a beauty even among his own kin, and like this - relaxed and comfortable - bordered on irresistible. A flash of heat spread through your body at the realisation. It took no small effort to squash these thoughts and steer them towards some semblance of propriety.
“The Valar have blessed us with good weather this autumn, my Lord. I was doing my chores and nearly felt faint from the heat.” You said, noticing Thranduil's eyebrows rise. “And the construction of your halls is incredible! Not a single drafty corner.”
“Heated, you say?” He interrupted suddenly, turning to face you fully. Etiquette (whenever you remembered it) dictated you should, too, and you two faced each other. Thranduil radiated curiosity, eyes lingering on your flushed cheeks and the warmth crawling down the neckline of your clothes. “Strange.”
“What is, my Lord?”
“I have said the same thing to Galion but he gave me a very pointed look and gestured towards Lady Anariel, who had been complaining to her maid about not lighting a fire in a timely manner.”
You frowned, too. The Lady Anariel was as Northern as Elves come and was fairly tolerant of wintery weather. When others wore furs, she got by with an outer dress of wool and, perhaps, a pair of gloves.
“Do you feel... Strange, my Lord?” You had a slight suspicion. Just a teeny-tiny one, that boiled down to those Eru-forsaken mushrooms.
In response you received an impish sort of shrug. “Not necessarily so. Do you?”
Your face blanched. Aside from suddenly finding him irresistible and feeling a little hot under the collar, nothing was amiss. But the longer you lingered on those two thoughts, the stronger they became. It was as if you were an adolescent again: barely any impulse control and all feeling.
‘twas a delicate situation. You could speak to a healer, of course, or let the strange circumstance run it's course. If it even could do that. Thoughts growing jumbled by the second, you said the only clear thing on your mind.
“Those cursed mushrooms.”
Thranduil was unperturbed. “I do not believe they are cursed. Potent, yes, but not cursed.”
Your eyebrows shot up. “... You too?”
He sighed. “I came out here in hopes of clearing my head from this fog of lust.” As you prepared to mutter- what, exactly? Apologies? - Thranduil's finger reached out for tour face to trace the curve of your jaw. “And in the process I found something much more exciting.”
Your bottom lip trembled. Such a simple gesture felt heavenly. Wherever his skin came in contact with yours, the heaviness receded briefly. Your breath caught in your chest as your heart picked up a hare's pace.
“Am I being propositioned?” You wished to say to yourself but in the fog, managed to sputter out loud.
“We could help each other out...” The King, unfurled to his full height and radiating heat equal to that you felt on the inside, grinned a crooked grin. It sat youthfully on his timeless features, just the right amount of flirtatious and reassuring.
You pretended to think about it. No, you really did, out of concern for your dignity. Throwing yourself onto the King was simply uncouth. Such was your next course of action, but the necessary amount of time had passed and the need, having been brought to the forefront or your mind, took hold of your sense. Slowly, you leaned into the touch and brought your hands to Thranduil's forearm, tilting his fingers to your mouth. Hot breath caused them to twitch.
“Does this answer your question?” You tilted your head, lips brushing against the multitude of rings he wore on his persona. It was most exhilarating to see his pupils widen and his mouth tremble.
Adam's apple bobbing, Thranduil swallowed. “No.” And smirked, the stunning bastard. “I need a clear, straightforward statement.”
You sighed, feigning annoyance. “I enthusiastically consent to having uncouth, untoward and potentially nasty things being done to my body by my Lord and King...”
You did not even get to finish. In a flash, Thranduil's hands had encircled your face and he bent himself over you, pushing your body into the balcony as he devoured your mouth with his. There was no grace and no finesse; something heavy and hard poking your stomach showed you just how much self-control your King had.
Seconds ago, you'd been having a perfectly normal conversation and now you found yourself airborne, having been unceremoniously picked up by the tall Elf and carried towards his chambers like the most coveted spoil of war while he devoured your mouth. You hummed into the kiss and responded with a groan, tearing the back lacing of your clothes clean off.
Your back connected with the mattress of his bed. Blinking at the rapid change of pace and scenery, you moaned out in frustration regarding your ruined clothes.
“I will commission more for you,” he said carelessly, throwing his own shirt Mordor knows where. His bare chest, chiseled with lithe muscle and pale as fresh milk, captivated your attention.
Previously having contended yourself with the occasional glance at the tiny window of bare skin where the sides of his robes met, you used your newfound opportunity to drink yourself full of Thranduil's fair skin. It felt as soft as it looked when he laid upon you, the weight of his body offering a delicious momentary reprieve from the tension building up in your muscles. Gossamer hair shielded you from the outside world as he leaned in towards your mouth again, this time capturing yours in a sensual dance of tongue and teeth.
A nimble hand took care of your bottoms, sliding inside your underwear as slick and cunning as a snake, to cup your mound. Thranduil groaned into the kiss, finding you soaked and willing, fingering the cleft of your lower lips with practiced gentle moves. The tenderness of it drove you crazy. Your need flared as a wall of standstill fire and you were surprised you did hadn't noticed it earlier. If the pulse in your cunt was anything to go by, you would come undone the very moment your King would finally allow you to feel full.
He was fairly content with sucking your soul out through your mouth and mapping the fat outer lips of your cunt. Never quite breaching and wholly avoiding your throbbing pearl, Thranduil simply basked in the amount of sticky juice your cunt was capable of producing.
The first loud moan of the night broke free if your lips and it was one of frustration.
Thranduil smiled into the kiss, your teeth clashing together. “What is it, mm?” He queried in-between wet pecks.
“I want to come.” You whined.
He chuckled. “And what's in it for me?”
Thankfully, your eyes were closed and he did not see your eyeroll. “You'll get to come, too?” Cringing at how lame it sounded, you were nonetheless powerless beneath him and overwhelmed from your desire.
“I prefer to play with my food.” He grinned a predator's smile, all shiny teeth and lidded eyes, but tugged down on your bottoms nonetheless. “Try harder.”
That became difficult as you were now bare; shivering in your King's arms, you cracked open a hazy eye to see him settle himself closer to your dripping center. It captivated him. Sliding two fingers along your lips, your eyes closed and head fell back as every nerve in your body came alight. Rewarded by a long moan, Thranduil gathered ample amount of moisture on his fingers and brushed over your quivering entrance.
Your back arched as he plunged them deeply within your aching cunt. The sticky noise it made was positively scandalous.
“I will-ah! forgive you for gathering the entire -ahh! King's guard to look at Feren and I!” You managed to form a quasi-coherent sentence through the moans and gasps spilling from your lips and were rather proud of yourself for it.
Thranduil's laugh echoed in the room as it did in his chest, a pleasant rumble vibrating through your core. “Whether Galion forgives you two for barking at him remains to be seen.”
Genuine amusement briefly overshadowed your shame at the situation of the past and at your own current neediness. The combination of emotion startled a laugh out of you, causing your core to clench around Thranduil's fingers and coat them in your wetness. He groaned low in his throat and rubbed your inner walls, reveling in the resulting moan. It did nothing to bring you closer to the peak.
“Sadist!” You accused and attempted to grind down on his hand, fisting the crumpled sheets.
“Slander!” He punctuated the rebuttal with an expert curl of his fingers. You arched. He smirked. “You should learn patience.”
There was no strength in your mind to formulate another witty comeback. Sensation, low and insistent, built up in the pit of your belly, an ache so sweet and tender you were sure it would be any second that you'd burst with it. Every pore on your skin open and receptive to touch, even the slide of silk sheets as your body bent with pleasure was overwhelming. You panted wetly through parted lips as a third finger joined in, the stretch of it making your eyes roll back into your head.
Thranduil would kill you. You were sure of it now. He would end you with a blinding smile and clever fingers never ceasing to move within you, the movement just shy of where you needed him most.
“Mercy!” You moaned. “Mercy, my King!”
You should have known his idea of it would be no less torturous than the ‘kindness’ that led you to your current place writhing atop his bed. Slowly, his tongue traced a path around your outer lips before dipping inside; it was hot and wet, like a summer storm, when it connected with your engorged clit and flicked it from root to tip. Electric feel of sensation pierced your body in a lightning bolt as your leg muscles seized. The King gave a pleased rumble and went for seconds and thirds, effortlessly holding your thighs open with one strong, long arm, palm digging into the soft meat.
Even the pain of it echoed with pleasure.
While the need within your loins kept steadily climbing with no end in sight, your King treated himself to a leisurely late night snack. His tongue delved in and out of your cunt, lapping up the waterfall of arousal. You would have been mortified, really, for the mess had you glued stuck to his face, your hips attempting to follow his mouth in circles.
Coupled with the digits slowly but surely stretching the entrance to your channel, brushing over the sensitive fornix, you knew the night would be long. Dark, but not cold. Hazy.
“Ngh!” You articulated through gritted teeth, feeling him pull away from a particularly sensitive spot in favour of sucking a bruise onto your inner thigh. Thranduil followed a path only he himself knew, marking your flesh with pulling, precise bites that left discoloured spot damp with spit. They pleasantly ached.
Over your stomach and at the underside of your bottom rib. The sides and bottoms of your breasts, all the way up at the root of your nipples. He took each one in into his mouth, suckling on it like a hungry babe, before releasing them with a wet pop just blow a gentle breath onto the pebbled nubs. Through parted lashes, you watched him, aptly fascinated by the lack of colour in his eyes, pupils blown wide and deep with lust.
You tasted your cunt on his tongue as he made way back up. Risking a glance downward, you saw Thranduil's cock hard, flushed and heavy, hanging out of his breeches. He hadn't bothered with removing them and that single detail had you nearly undone. How the King himself could not wait to he inside of you!
An understanding of his previous games had come too, for he was rather proportional everywhere. Just the slide of his weeping tip against your bruised thigh invoked a shudder in you, back arching. You presented yourself to your best ability, eyes shining with pleading as he rested his forehead against yours.
Thranduil held himself above you, weight on his elbows, as his cock nosed at your sopping entrance. Immediately, it tried to suck him in, coaxing his lips to bend into a smirk. Such proximity was putting your sensibility directly into negatives. With a wild look mirrored in his own darkened pupils, you petulantly stuck out your bottom lip and panted with all the sarcasm that you could muster:
“we'll get to the good part... About tomorrow?” You wished to add more, something about him being old, but that remark and many more drowned in the absolute extasy flooding your body as he slid into your cunt in one single smooth stroke. “Aah...” Left your lips instead, and with it, any remaining oxygen departed from your lungs as well.
“Mouthy,” Thranduil remarked, sounding unfairly put together for someone who's mouth was as slippery as wet stone and cheeks brighter than a ripe beetroot.
You forgave him then and there. In awe, you watched him give you another one of his impish grins and nudge at that spot deeply within you. And he did it all over again, plush mouth releasing the sweetest, quietest of moans as he did so. Time got lost in the tug of war tour cunt played with his cock; like this, your release was imminent and fast approaching.
You grabbed Thranduil's arms, rubbed his shoulders as your legs wound up around his narrow waist while he contentedly and systematically unraveled you apart with rapid, smooth snaps of his hips. For a while, there was nothing in the room but the two of you and the lewd noises of damp skin slapping against skin. Clutching harder, you felt yourself tighten around his girth. Each measured stroke abused your engorged clit, heavy sac adding extra sensation on your perineum.
A low, feral groan joined the thrilling cacophony of sex. Thranduil fucked you through your first orgasm with gritted teeth, barely slowing with the new resistance of your cunt attempting to milk him for his worth. Hair hanging over your faces like a curtain, he claimed your lips in a searing kiss as you whimpered with overstimulation. Evenly, his thrusts became shallow, grinding.
Having become a acquainted with your bearings somewhat, you made a confused noise. The King just grinned. His palm connected firmly with the side of your hip as you squealed. He withdrew.
“Present yourself to your King.” He ordered, both smug and slightly breathless, helping you along onto all fours.
You chuffed into the damp bedding and obeyed, arching your back at a sinful curve. Within seconds, you were once again blissfully full.
a/n: I am way too horny of a person to write anything LACE compliant. Or is that my commitment issues talking? Anyway, ELVES FUCK SEVERELY! At least this October. mwah 💋
I once ate like 12 grams of cubensis and was a cat for 3 hours, so Feren barking at Galion with the help of some 3k+ year old mushroom infused moonshine isn't that far-fetched.
for the request, could you make a thranduil x reader where the reader gets sick and he fusses over them? Thank you! (p.s. love your writings!!)
Thank you for the request! I know this has been sitting in my inbox for weeks, I have just been very busy. For the love of god, someone please tell me how to do the dark sectioning line so my posts look nicer.

Summary: The Elvenking fussing over his sick beloved.
It started out you were feeling a slight headache after breakfast. You decided not to ignore it, thinking you needed some water and fresh air. After a cup of cold water, you let your guards know you would be heading outside to the gardens to walk around and get some air.
They stayed a few feet behind you, allowing you some sense of privacy here. You walked around leisurely, enjoying the beautiful hanging leaves of the weeping willows, the pretty scent of the roses, and the caws of the birds. The breeze was kind to you, sweeping your stray hairs out of your face and gently tickling your pointed ears. You breathed in and out deeply a couple times before you felt a strong wave of nausea hit you, you stopped in your tracks for a second. Hand going up to your collarbones, hoping this will pass.
"Is everything alright, my queen?" one of the guards called out to you.
You didn't know what to say or even if you could say anything as the bile in your throat couldn't decide whether to come up or go back down. You felt your body start to heat up a bit at the discomfort.
You brought your hand down from your collarbone down to your side and turned around to face the guards.
"I think I will head to my chambers and lie down actually," you responded, walking back from where you just came.
The guards nodded their heads and stood to the sides to let you walk past them, you tried not to walk too quickly, lest someone become alarmed. You strode down the various walkways until you reached your chamber doors, the guards leaving you there. Your hand grasped the door handle before you felt another wave of nausea, this time almost coming completely up.
You turned your head to the side and noticed one of the maids down the hallway chatting with a cook.
"Marian," you called out as strongly as you could.
The elleth ceased her conversation and walked briskly over to you, "Yes, my queen?" she asked attentively.
You swallowed as another round threatened to come up. "please fetch a healer for me," you said, hand turning the doorknob and slowly pushing it open, "and please notify the king that I won't be able to join him in the throne room today," you said calmly and quickly.
Marian nodded her head, wringing her hands together, but then spoke, "Yes my queen, I will be quick about it." she gave a curtsy and then was on her way.
You pushed yourself into your chambers, grabbing a carafe and shakily pouring yourself another glass of water. You drank the glass before setting down the cup and then held onto the table to kick off your shoes. You were starting to feel weak and the overheating you were feeling was beginning to make you feel freezing cold. It was late autumn, the fire in the hearth was roaring, but not chilly outside, or maybe you just didn't notice it. Now that you think about it, the guards were wearing wool cloaks.
You pulled out your jewelry and set it on the table before clumsily making your way to the bed. You pulled back the lush blankets and furs, crawling into the warmth of the shared bed. Though your favorite comfort was elsewhere. You sank into your spot and pulled the blankets over you, feeling a shiver now begin to take over your body.
You must have slipped out of consciousness for a few moments for the next moment you felt a hand on your forehead and the chamber doors being flung open.
"How is she?" you heard a deep melodic voice ask.
"I just arrived moments before you my king, she seems to have a fever of some sort." the healer replied to your husband.
Your eyes opened to see your husband who began to sit down on the foot of the bed, his hand reaching down and rubbing your shin over the blankets. He gave a small smile that he only reserved for you.
"You have a fever, my queen, are you feeling nauseous at all?" the healer asked.
You nodded your head, "A headache as well, I went for a walk in the gardens hoping that would help but instead, I started to feel worse." you explained, pulling the blankets up to your chin.
The healer hummed in response, "I believe you may have an autumn fever, it runs rampant in these parts for whatever reason."
Thranduil quickly darted his eyes to the healer, "That's all you can come up with?" he growled.
"Thranduil," you began.
"I've seen this hundreds of times my king, it's easy to spot and easy to treat. Her Majesty is not the first person this week to have this." the healer explained.
Thranduil opened his mouth to say something else before you cut him off, "Thank you, sir, can I please have something to relieve me of these symptoms?"
"Of course my queen, I will be back momentarily." the healer said with a bow before heading out of the chambers.
You looked back at your husband who was still rubbing your leg, "You don't have to worry about me or leave whatever it is that you were doing." You said, nudging him with your foot.
He nodded scooting up on the bed to sit next to your torso, "You are my love and my queen, I will always worry for you," he said taking your hand into his and rubbing it with his thumb.
"You and the realm will be just fine for a few days while I recover." you reasoned with him.
He smiled and leaned down to give a quick peck to your lips. "Well, then I will be right here by your side for the next few days."
"No, you need to run the realm," you protested still shivering.
"You just said the realm will be just fine, and I quite agree," he said kicking off his boots and taking off his cloak.
"Yes without me," you replied as he crawled over you onto the other side of the bed pulling back the blankets and getting underneath with you. He pulled you close in a cuddle.
"What are you doing? And what if you get sick?" you asked, settling into his warmth.
"Keeping you warm and if I get sick, we can be sick together," he said placing a kiss on your head, rubbing his hands up and down your body.
"How romantic," you chuckled before sleep took hold of you.

"We had an agreement, my daughter. You said you were willing to marry." He gracefully sits in his bedroom's luxurious chair. "I said I would if I liked them, and I don't like any of them." You complained to your father. He sighs, trying to keep his composure. "Why? What is wrong with them? I am presenting you with some of the finest elven men there are to offer. Royalty, nobles, even some of my strongest soldiers, my most intelligent scholars. What more do you need?" He pours you wine as he speaks. Since your mother's passing, your father has spoiled you rotten. Anything you wanted he gave you. It was important to him and the kingdom that you were wed. In the same breath, he wasn't going to give you to anyone undeserving of you. You shrugged and sipped your wine. "I am grateful to you, Father. I just... I don't know... I believe it would be easier to pick one." He nods. "I am holding another banquet tonight. There will be new suitors as well as old ones. We will keep trying till you find one." You give an exhausted smile. "Yes, Ada." He sips his wine. "I do not do this to torture you, my child." You meet his eyes and smile. "I know, Ada..."

Elvish banquets in Mirkwood were boring. Standing next to your father the whole night was. However, it beat talking to a bunch of men drooling to marry you. "My child, you cannot find love standing next to me the whole night. Mingle." Although you were well into your adult years, you were still a daddy's girl at heart and loved being with him even when it was boring. You groaned. He takes your hand and gently squeezes it. "I'll be here." He reassures before sending you on your way. With a deep breath, you mix into the crowd. "Good evening, Princess." And "Stunning as ever, you're majesty." Fill your ears as you try to keep up. "Princess." Says a Royal armor commander. "Hello, commander." His smile is genuine and bright. "I was hoping to get the chance to speak with you tonight. It's been so long since I've had the honor of being in your presence." The comment was out to make you blush, but it did nothing to sway any emotion. "Well..." You glance at your father. You gave you a nod before turning to engage in polite conversation. "I suppose now is as good as ever." You smile and take his arm as he offers it. The next half hour is spent nodding along as he passionately retells his adventures as a commander. Till of course, the next suitor came. Mirkwood's top scholar. A younger fellow, a bit shy in public settings, yet confident. He tried to woe you with how he'd be beneficial to the kingdom. Next, an elven prince your age. Perfect on paper, by all means. Kind and respectful. Well-read and capable in battle. When his loving words leave his lips, you can't help but feel impatient. You wanted him to stop talking. Not out of boredom but because you weren't suree how to respond. Suddenly, your conversation is interpreted. "Brother? There you are... oh, my apologies, Princess. I didn't mean to interrupt." The prince smiles. "Your majesty, this is my older sister, Cynthia." The woman was also an elven princess. About a hundred years older. Taller, stronger, and brighter. Everything about her was enchanting. From her glowing dark skin to her coiled brown hair. Your heart stopped when her eyes met yours. "I um... no need to apologize, Princess Cynthia." Her smile was charming as she turned to dismiss her brother. Something about their parents needing him. "Perhaps you wouldn't mind my company as we wait for his return?" You blush. "Not at all." The room was full of dancing and eating. "I was informed this banquet is to help you find a husband?" She asks. Your gut sinks at the idea. "Yes, that was my father's goal." Cynthia moves closer. "Is this not your goal as well?" You can't meet her eyes. "Marriage, yes..." She smirks and gently runs her fingers up your arm. "But not a husband?" Your heart flutters at her action. This was enough of a response. Her fingers lift your chin. "You deserve more than any man can give you." Your face turns pink, ears feel like they are on fire. "May I have this dance?"
☆
"Where is my daughter? I do not see her among the suitors." Thranduil asks the servant next to him. "She is partaking in the dance festivals, my lord." You were dancing? With you? His eyes search the crowd of Elves to find you in the arms of Princess Cynthia. She led the dance and never once lost your eyes. Thranduil saw how relaxed you seemed. Never look over your shoulder to see if his approval. You looked so free. Laughing and blushing as she spins you only to pull you in close again. Thranduil smiles and tilts his head. When the dance concluded, Princess Cynthia guided you off the floor before kissing your hand and departing. You could see your blush from where he sat. "Send Arwen, my daughter's way. I wish for them to befriend." He orders the servant. Thranduil was aware that Arwen was unavailable but simply had to know if it was just that Princess or all princesses.
☆
You smile and giggle at the memories of last night. The many beautiful women suddenly speaking with you. Asking for dances or a walk in the garden. Brushing your elven hair came a knock on your door. "Enter." The door opens, revealing your father. "Hello, Ada!" You cheer. He smiles. "You're glowing, my dear. I take it you had fun last night?" You nodded. "Lots!" He sits on the edge of your bed, watching you braid your hair in the mirror. "Any suitors?" Your smile falters. "No..." You answered ashamed. "To be expected. Today I have a few more I'd like you to meet." You give an exhausted sign. "But Ada." He raises a hand, making you fall silent. "I have a feeling you'll like this section better." He says, making his way to you. Meeting his eyes in the mirror, you give a smile the best you can. "You will have a connection with someone. It is in your stars, my child." He kisses the top of your head. "Please wear something nice. Perhaps your mother's necklace?" He requests as he moves to leave. Stopping short of the door. "I know this is exhausting, but know I wouldn't give you anything less than what you deserve." He smiles and closes the door behind him.
☆
With a sigh, you prepare yourself for yet another long day of ass-kissers and boring small talk. Entering your father's throne room, you make your way up to him. "Hello, child." He greets. His smile widens when he sees what earrings you are wearing. "Come here. Let me see." You lean forward, letting him more your hair to see your mother's old jewels. A few of her starlight gems were turned into jewelry she never got to wear, and your father gave them to you. Thranduil feels tears wheeling up but doesn't show it. "Stunning." He kisses your cheek, letting you straighten up. "Thank you, Aba." You take a breath and stand facing the room. "Bring in the first suitress!" Orders the king. You pause. "Suitress?" The guards open the door, and an elven princess from a neighboring kingdom strolls in with her mother a few of their own guards and their handmaidens, who appears to be holding a gift. "What... father, why-" You weren't sure how to ask your question. "You agreed to marry if you like someone. Their sex or gender matters not to me as long as they are deserving of you." You wanted to cry. He had paid attention to you well enough to know your wants. "Thank you, Father." You kiss his cheek and turn back to the woman, excited. "Welcome to Mirkwood." He nods. "Thank you, King Thranduil, for this opportunity. We have brought a gift to show our appreciation." The queen says, letting her daughter's handmaiden hand over a beautifully carved wooden box to your handmaiden. Presenting it to you, she opens it to reveal a big crystal. "It is the finest piece of rose quartz our Kingdom has to offer." You nod to your handmaiden, letting her close it and set it down before the weight becomes too much. "Rose quartz?" Your father questioned. "A crystal of love. If I recall correctly." The queen smiled. "You do, your majesty." Your eyes met the princess's. Her eyes were a spring green color, her hair the color of autumn, and her skin of rose petals. Yet she wore a frown. She didn't seem happy to be here. "What is your name?" You asked. She looked at her mother, and who nodded. "Finella." You give a kind smile before her eyes meet the ground again. "Beautiful name. I am Y/n." A few more words and questions were exchanged between the royal parents before they left the room. "Finella did not seem happy to be here." He nods. "Some parents do not care for their children's happiness." You don't respond and let him call in the next royal family. In came a princess with a soft round face and hips. Her hair was brown like a leaf preparing to fall. She seems very happy to be here. Whether the excitement was for you or Mirkwood, you weren't sure. She was accompanied by her father, the king of a smaller elf kingdom, quite far from here. They too had guards and servants following them. Their interactions were similar to the first family except for the fact that this princess wasn't shy in the least and had lots of questions. Their gift was a sword made from their strongest metal embroidered with dragon scales. Where they were gone, your father spoke of it. "That's quite the gift from such a small kingdom. Does it please you?" You hold the sword, running your fingers over the dragon's scale in the hilt. "Yes, it does." A few more royal families came till it was the noble elf families. Slowly going down the latter of class, the more you meet. Royal to noble. Noble to Soldiers. Soldiers to scholars. Your father said anyone under that was not good enough for you.
After the meetings concluded, you joined your father for lunch. "You seem sad, my dear. Does the suitress not appeal to you?" You cut your lunch, shaking your head. "No, I just... I was just expecting to see Princess Cynthia. From last night's banquet." Thranduil nods, swallowing his grape. "Yes, you did seem to enjoy her company. I'm sorry to tell you this but she is already wed. Otherwise, I would have arranged a follow-up." Your face drops. "Already wed?" Dropping your shoulders your poster slumps. Gently, your father taps the table. "Up." He corrects. "It was one dance, child it was hardly much of anything to hang on to. You have plenty of new prospects. Ones I have a feeling you will actually like." Of course, it was one dance and some nice conversation, but she made you feel like you were flying. "Where there?" He asks, breaking you from your thoughts. "Pardon?" "Where there any prospects you liked?" You shifted in your seat. "Um, yes, actually a few. Although I feel bad not being able to recall most of their names." He smiles. "Bare no ill will. You've met with a number of prospects. That is bound to happen. What do you recall?" You look down shyly as you poke your lunch. "I liked one of your soldiers. The really strong one with the smooth voice and chocolate skin. She spoke of her will to protect those who can not do it for themselves. I believe she stated she joined the royal armor after her father died serving." Thranduil nods. "I recall her. Her name is Noel. A great warrior. Will soon make commander if she remains on her path. Who else?" He asks, sipping wine. "A scholar. Very long blonde hair. It was kept in an ancient elven braiding style. She spoke of educating our youth and had a love for philosophy written by many races. She gifted me a human fairytale, "King Thrushbread." I believe it was meant to be ironic." You chuckled at the memory. Thranduil does not. "Any nobles or royals that caught your eye?" You sigh. "Um, maybe... I'm still thinking about it." "I am glad you've found options." His smile was genuine. Thranduil cared not for what gender you loved, just that you found it. For your sake and the kingdom's.
This is my Princess x Princess anthem. I think it fits this story.

You dance under the trees.
The air is warm and sweet, the torches glow with golden fire and the wine is flowing freely. The lush green canopy hides the night sky above, making it feel like you are in a great hall.
The spring revel has come upon Eryn Lasgalen, and you are drunk and happy and free. Your bare feet feel the soft grass and cool rock and your short dress sticks to your body while you dance around the hill.
Other elves twirl and jump around you, they take your hands and laugh with you. Tonight the line between monarch and subject blurs. The lively music of pipes and flutes makes your head spin.
At the head of a great carved table, which bends under the weight of fruit and soft bread and carafes of deep red wine, sits your husband, The Elvenking, and for once he seems to be enjoying himself. Upon his regal brow rests a crown of flowers and leaves and his lips are curled into a smile. His wine cup is never empty.
Perhaps that is the reason he lets the group of elf children prance around him. Some are singing to the music and dance around happily, some climb on his lap and look up at him with their big bright eyes. One child has dared to touch his crown and braid his hair. For once he lets them, for tonight is a time of celebration for everyone, both a king and a child.
The round ends and you can finally go rest for a moment. Your spent legs carry you towards your own throne, one set next to your husbands. It is a beautiful thing, spun from intertwining branches and adorned with carved writing. Budding blooms decorate the headrest.
With a sigh you plop yourself, rather ungracefully, into your seat. Before your husband can get a word out, the child sitting upon his lap starts: “Please my lady, come and dance with us.” The little boy pleads and others join him.
“Did you not ask your king to dance with you?” you ask, teasing them a little, for you know the answer.
A choir of intermingling voices answers you, one over the other accusing their Elvenking of refusing them. You laugh quietly at their distress and at your husband's tired sigh. “Alright, dear children, I promise I will come and dance with you. But you have to promise me, to ask your mothers first and then to go to bed on time.”
The little faces light up and soon they are all scrambling to find their parents.
“You saved me, my love,” Thranduil laughs, a rare sight. “How was your dance? You seem already spent.” You know he is only joking and you decide to retaliate.
“Oh, it was wonderful,” you exaggerate. “It would be better, however, if a certain elf joined me for the next song?” It is meant only as a jest but he surprises you with his answer.
“Be good to me and I just might,” he voice is low and rich and it does things to you.
“Are you too deep in your cups, or are you teasing me?”
“Believe me, I know how to hold my liquor and I am totally serious,” he smirks and drinks from his cup. You want to kiss the smug look off of his face. You might just do that later tonight. No, you will.
“I shall hold you to that promise.”
“I have never doubted that, dearest, however I believe you already have a different partner for the next round.” He points towards the crowd and suddenly the elf children come running back to you.
You stand up, grab the chalice from Thranduil’s hands and take a deep swig of wine. It is rich and bitter and your face scrunches at the taste. “I will dance with you tonight,” you warn your husband and let yourself be pulled away by a throng of laughing children.
—
The night has given away into the early hours of morning when you get back to Thranduil. The crowds have thinned, the music slowed and the elf children finally went to sleep.
“My love,” Thranduil says standing up, when he sees you.
You come together like it’s second nature now. He embraces you around your middle and you hide your face in his chest. He smells sweetly of wine and flowers. You would drown in it if you could.
He cups your face in his big hands and you look up into those cold cold eyes, warm only for you. “Are you ready to fulfil your promise?” you ask, voice low.
He smiles at you like he does at no one else and your heart melts at the sight
“My king!” you exclaim drunkenly. “Let us dance around the hill one last time and after that I am ready to go to bed,” mumble the end of the sentence into his shoulder, your eyes already droopy. You feel him shake his head at your antics, but then he swoops down and kisses your forehead. You shiver at the gentle gesture.
Thranduil, with you half leaning on him, leads you by your hand among the elves. A single lonely flute plays a slow melody, you feel entranced by it. The music and your husband's icy eyes lull you into a sleepy daze.
You twirl in his arms and reach up to inhale his sweet scent, kissing his white throat. He hums above you and winds you to him even closer.
The air is warm and sweet and spring has come.
—
You are led back to your rooms by your husband, leaning on him, drowsy from both the dancing and the wine.
You let yourself be lowered on the grand bed and look up at him with droopy eyes. “I want to kiss you,” you do not know if it's the wine giving you this courage or your sleepiness.
Thranduil smiles at that, and it’s incredibly soft, and obliges you. He tastes like always, rich and full. “I love you,” you mumble into his lips.
“And I you,” he answers, when he pulls away from you, setting himself gently above your thighs.
You don’t like that he is so far away, so you grab his hips and try to pull him back to you. “Please,” you whine. “Please-.”
“Use your words darling, you know I can’t read your mind,” he tuts above you, while starting to undo the lace on the front of your dress.
“Please touch me, I need you,” the fire is burning in your belly and you feel like you might burn if he doesn’t do something. Anything.
“Let me get you out of this dress first,” he promises and smirks, pleased with himself. His hands are careful, but sure, and soon the silky fabric of the bed covers caresses your skin.
Then he stands up to undress himself. Reaching to take off his crown, he is a sight, naked, his brow adorned by flowers. Pale smooth skin and ice blue eyes. You swear he’s never been more beautiful than he is now.
“Come here, my love,” you say and he does. He lays over you and kisses you hungerly. You moan into his mouth, tangling your fingers in his silky hair, finding some of the braids the children left there.
“Let me take care of you, dearest,” Thranduil whispers in your ear and you shiver at the thought. He trails kisses down and down until he reaches your thighs and licks and bites there until you're squirming under him, his strong hands pinning you down by the hips.
“No more, just touch me,” you whine and pull at his scalp harshly.
To your horror Thranduil stops all together. He pulls himself up, your hands still in his hair. Above you he looks like a mythical being, one you should not have the honour to touch.
“You have gotten so bold since we met. Commanding you king.”
With his slight smile and a teasing tone he brings you back to earth. “But you love that about me, my king,” you smirk at him.
“That is true, yes, but if I am to comply to you, and truly touch you like you want me to, you shall, let me tease you a little. As a treat,” oh, he sounds so proud, high and mighty. Yes he shall tease you, but you shall repay it tenfold.
With a satisfied smirk on his lips he returns to his task excruciatingly slow. He works you up again, lapping at your thighs, biting the skin there and holding you to the mattress by your waist. So the moment he does, finally tastes you with his tongue, it feels like you're going to burst. Dragon fire burns under your skin, unvanquishable, everlasting. Only he, Thranduil can save you.
He is savouring your taste, as if it was sweeter than any wine he’s ever tasted. He builds you up to your peak slowly, taking his time, until tears of pleasure sting your eyes. The dam brakes, when you come from his mouth alone. It is deliciously painful.
Thranduil wipes his chin with his hand and lays next to you, circling his arms around you. You kiss him again, tasting yourself on his lips, reaching down to touch him. “Meleth nin,” he moans and you watch as his brows scrunch up and his blue eyes roll in pleasure.
You smile for yourself and kiss his neck, biting and sucking. The white skin goes dark quickly under your lips. In the end you don’t have the heart to deny him, and so you don’t tease him much. Still, he doesn't last long at all, for he was already bursting from eating you out. With a few final strokes he moans loudly and comes in your hand.
You kiss for a time after that, but you both are too sleepy to continue properly. Thranduil, ever the gentleman, offers himself to go find a towel to clean you with. You would so like to watch him, as he prances around the room in all his glory, but you can’t hold your eyes open. You feel his gentle touches and hear his loving words, but at that you are already half asleep. The last you know is your husband pulling you to his embrace, holding you head to his chest.
Prompt: Established relationship; Reader is jealous of someone flirting with their spouse Thranduil, who is oblivious [inspo from @nightfall-writer]
Featuring: Thranduil Oropherion x GN!Spouse!Reader
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: nothing besides my "Tauriel and Legolas are BFFs" propaganda
You had no reason for envy.
You were happily wed to the love of your life. Joined the royalty of Eryn Galen through your marriage to the Elvenking Thranduil Oropherion. Doted upon by your husband, and cared for by your subjects. You wanted for nothing.
And yet… in had crept “the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on” (Othello III:3).
There was never any doubt in your mind that Thranduil was faithful to you. His love for you was as unwavering as water downhill. As was yours for him.
He couldn’t help but smile when he saw you, and all but melted into your embrace in the privacy of your bedchambers. The touch of your hand more calming than chamomile. The taste of your lips more intoxicating than wine. Your bare skin more alluring than a soft bed after a long day.
But as wise and regal as your husband was, he could be a bit thick in the head at times.
It had been a whole ordeal for the two of you to come together in the first place. A host of conspirators, led by Legolas and Tauriel. An idiotic dance as the two of you convinced yourselves that your feelings were unrequited. You were surprised that your now step-son had not smacked either of you upside the head at least once. His patience was unparalleled. In this instance at least.
So you couldn’t quite blame your husband for not recognizing others’ romantic interest in him.
There were nobles from other lands, elf, dwarrow, and man alike, who were visiting. After the Battle of the Five Armies and the retaking of Erebor by the line of Durin, he decided (i.e. he was persuaded) to expand trade relations, renew treaties, and welcome ambassadors. It seemed that almost every month brought someone new to his halls.
And you weren’t surprised that someone else would find your husband attractive. Not at all.
When you first met him, you could barely breathe. Ageless beauty. Sleek, shining blond hair. Piercing blue eyes. Luxurious clothing and jewelry with more detail than one could find in a day. Voice and speech that crept into your ears and made a home in your mind. You found the Sindar attractive the moment you saw him.
For an ambassador or noble to find Thranduil handsome meant their eyes functioned in some capacity. To find his voice and speech charming, their ears. That did not bother you. It was when their feelings changed like yours did, from aesthetic appreciation to romantic desire.
And he was oblivious to it all. Your speechlessness the day you met, your intimidation at meeting a king. The eagerness for those to meet with him, an eagerness to engage with Eren Galen and its wealth of materials, labor, and beauty.
Jealousy seemed so irrational an emotion. Thranduil was wholly yours; inattentive towards other romantic pursuits. Doted upon you. Craved your company and affection at all times
But it ate at you. Others and their lingering glances. Flirtatious words. Gentle brushes against him. And the ugliness of what you felt.
Your marriage was still recent, especially by elven standards. You didn’t want to make a fool of yourself. To act like a child who refuses to let others play with their toy. You would turn away and pretend you did not see it, or skip meetings you were not invited to.
Thranduil was concerned. Held you close at night. Reminded you how much he loved you and how brilliant you were. How lucky he was to have you in his life and as his spouse. He must have thought that all the social engagements were draining you.
“I thank you for meeting with us, sir.” You stood from your seat at the head of the table, and everyone else leaped to their feet. It was still a little strange for so many people to hang on your every word. “I will bring your proposal to King Thranduil shortly.”
The man from Dale beamed and bowed low. “Thank you, Your Majesty.”
Most of the councilors filed out, but the nobleman scampered over to your side. Another low bow which you met with a nod.
“Long have I heard of the beauty of elves, Your Majesty…” A quirk in your eyebrow reminded him of his place, and he quickly caught himself. “The beauty of your halls, your craftsmanship and arts. It is an honor to see it all.”
You gave him a polite smile. “Thank you, sir. You are too kind.”
He opened his mouth again for more flattery, but another voice interrupted. One from the doorway.
“Meleth nín?”
There stood your husband, dressed in robes blue as water in moonlight. A tall crown of silver branches. White stones imitated snow and ice amongst the delicate wire.
“Forgive me, sir,” he said, not even sparing the nobleman a glance, “but I must speak with my love now.”
The nobleman quickly excused himself, but hadn’t the chance to leave the room before Thranduil had your hands in his, and his lips on yours.
When he leaned in, you expected a chaste kiss against your cheek. Instead, one hand settled on the back of your neck, and the other placed your hand against his chest. Its opposite quickly mirrored and both of your hands held the fabric of his robe.
Your lips were shiny and your face warm by the time your husband pulled away from you. All the tension had melted from him, and he wasted no time in pressing his forehead against yours and letting his eyes flutter closed again. Once his breath came easy again, he gave you a chaste kiss on the nose.
“Forgive my forwardness, meleth nín,” he cooed in Sindarin, a gentle brush of his hand over your cheek.
“Nothing to forgive, husband.” A kiss to his nose. “How could I be upset at the notion that my husband, the most handsome of all who have lived, live now, and will ever life, desires me?”
A smile at your words, and another kiss on your forehead.
That evening, the two of you were entwined on the couch in your apartments. His head rested against your chest, against your heartbeat, and your fingers combed through his hair and rubbed his back.
A fire crackled in the hearth, and two half-drunk goblets of wine sat on the table at your elbow. A comfortable silence, broken after a good while by a single word.
“Beloved,” he asked quietly.
“Yes?”
“I have a confession. And need your advice.”
The hand formerly in his hair transferred to gently scratch the back of his neck and you briefly squeezed him close with the other arm. He adjusted so he could look up at your face a bit better.
“Of course, meleth nín. What is it?”
“When you were speaking to that man from Dale… I had a foolish thought. Jealousy. I’ve felt it a great deal over the past few weeks, thought I never acted upon it. Until today. I feel childish now, interrupting and publicly expressing physical affection in neither the right time nor the right place. I-”
You cut him off with a kiss to his lips. A startled noise from him, then he pulled himself further up the couch so you could kiss more passionately. He wasn’t entirely sure why you were so taken with the idea of him being so immature, but he was glad you weren’t disappointed.
A quick huff of breath as you pulled apart.
“I love you so much,” you panted, then breaking into giggles. His brows furrowed.
“What is so funny?”
You kissed his nose. “Because I have been feeling jealous the past few weeks. And I hadn’t a clue you were feeling similarly.”
“Why are you feeling jealous?”
“Because,” you flicked his chest, “you have an entourage of nobles, merchants, and ambassadors doting after you. And I was disappointed in myself for being so immature.”
“I do?”
A very unregal snort from you. “Meleth nín, for one so wise, you are so…”
“Don’t finish that sentence.”
More giggles from you. “Very well.”
He rested his head on your shoulder and his nose was tucked comfortably against your throat. The soothing warmth of his breath and the movement of his chest almost lulled you to sleep.
“I don’t think feeling jealousy is a bad thing,” you mused, fingers tracing the embroidery of his leisure dress. “It is a natural part of our behavior, to feel protective of things we love. And you weren’t rude or aggressive, for which I would have been unhappy. I’m glad you love me so much that somewhere in you,” a tap to the side of his head, as if to point the spot out, “a primal sliver encourages you to keep me all to yourself.”
A deep kiss from your husband. One hand behind your neck, cradling your head. The other crept between your back and the couch, fingers pressing into your flesh, pulling you into him as if any distance between you two still existed. You were smiling wide against his lips.
“How silly we both are,” he chuckled after leaning back for air.
Your fingers combed through his hair, finally settling to gently scratch the scalp around his ears.
“Indeed we are, my love.”

It was both uncommon and unusual for my father to not tell me anything regarding business and trade deals. Even if he didn't tell me everything, he would at least give me a crumb of something to keep me satisfied until whatever deal was brokered and completed.
"Why can't you tell me?" I pestered him, following him around his small wooden office in the rebuilt Esgaroth.
He just shook his head, signing the piece of parchment, folding it, and then pouring hot wax, and stamping it with his insignia.
"It's best for you not to know until it's finished and done," he replied, standing up with the letter in hand, heading towards the door and handing it to a waiting messenger.
I followed my father out the door, angrily shutting it behind me. The messenger quickly took off down the wooden pier and off until I no longer had him in my sight. I turned to face my father again who was already walking in the opposite direction a few feet ahead of me.
I groaned picking up the skirt of my pale blue dress and briskly walked after him, trying to catch up with him. He walked quickly, with a purpose. People greeted him as they walked past, offering smiles to me as well. My father was the well-respected mayor of Esgaroth, and I was his curious and headstrong only daughter. My brothers were off on business elsewhere.
He kept ignoring my pleading attempts for information on whatever he was keeping from me. Soon we came to the outermost edge of the town, where we looked down over the edge at the work being done by some brave men. They were diving down to retrieve jewels from the corpse of Smaug the dragon.
The jewels were beautiful and exquisite; Father told me that some were being traded and sold, some were being kept as a reminder of that fateful day, and the rest were being used for something my father wouldn't tell me about.
Two things he wouldn't tell me about and it was irritating me. As I previously explained, I am curious and I like to know things, so I can help out if needed. Father calls me nosey, I disagree.
I saw the divers come to the surface with fistfuls of jewels, putting them in baskets that were then pulled up by ropes by other men and carefully distributed into 3 different piles. I knew from tales that Smaug was a large dragon, but I didn't realize just how many jewels covered the dragon's chest; though the arrow that claimed his life was still embedded in the bone.
Father inspected the jewels, still ignoring my pleas. Huffing, I walked back to our residence and poured myself some honey wine, my father disapproved of me having some wine before dinner but he wasn't here to judge at the moment. I decided to spend the rest of my afternoon reading a romance book that I recently acquired from some traders.
A few hours passed when the cook started making dinner and my father arrived back shortly after.
"Mmm, Alis, whatever you are preparing smells wonderful," my father praised the cook, taking off his coat and draping it over his favorite chair, before looking over at me, "and Eleanor, it appears you haven't stopped sulking," he remarked sitting down. I glared at him over my book from my seat on the couch.
"Ah sir, she hasn't been sulking, she's been good reading her book," said Alis, chopping up an onion.
I smirked, returning my attention back to my book that I was nearly done with. All was quiet for a half hour besides Alis chopping up ingredients, until there was a knock at the door.
My father stood up from his chair, "Ah his response was quicker than I thought it would be." he mumbled walking towards the door, opening it, and receiving a letter from the messenger who once again scurried off.
"And dinner is done," Alis announced placing three plates of food on the table.
I set my book off to the side and got up from my seat, taking my place at the dinner table where Alis sat, pouring herself some honey wine, and my father leisurely made his way over unfolding the letter with an insignia I did not recognize.
I too poured myself a drink and took a sip, watching as my father sat down in his chair reading the letter, a smile appearing on his face before he set the letter folded up, down on the table.
"Good news sir?" Alis asked, raising her fork to her mouth.
"Yes, wonderful news and an excellent new alliance." my father said taking a bite of his potatoes.
I tried to not act interested even though I was DYING to know, I was tempted to snatch the letter and read it, but I stayed collected. We ate in silence for a while until we were almost done eating when my father decided to speak.
"Eleanor, you will be getting married soon." he proclaimed, sitting back in his chair, and bringing his cup to his mouth.
I almost choked as I was taken by surprise, "Married? To whom?"
He was quiet for a while, watching me squirm. I wasn't against the idea of marriage, I actually dreamed of finding true love and a good husband. But I wanted to know my suitor. Was he nice? Was he valiant like in the romance stories?
"The elvenking, King Thranduil," he said, putting his cup down on the table.
I had heard little of King Thranduil, I only knew he was the king of Mirkwood and fought with his army at the Battle of the Five Armies, almost 100 years ago.
Alis reached over and gently squeezed my forearm, "You'll be a queen," she said with a smile, before standing up and clearing the table whilst I stared at my father.
"But he's an elf," was all I could say.
"Yes, that's why he is called the Elvenking." my father said, standing up with a stretch.
I rolled my eyes as I scooted back my chair and stood up as well, "And I'm a human. It's almost unheard of for two different people to marry." I said walking around the table to my father who was making his way back over to his chair.
"Yes, but there are a few instances of it happening and like Alis said, you will be queen," he replied sitting back down.
I sat down on the couch silently, taking it all in. While I had odd feelings about marrying an elf, I understood my father had some sort of new alliance with Mirkwood, I didn't want to negatively affect that if I refused to marry the Elvenking; also I was 18 now, and I needed to marry. So I silently accepted it.
"When do I leave for Mirkwood?" I asked, getting up from my spot on the couch.
"In two days a few elf guards will be here to escort you to Mirkwood," he replied, staring into the empty fireplaces, the room getting darker.
"Two days," I whispered, before heading to my bedroom and closing the door behind me.
