The constant parallels between Fisk and Matt are scratching that itch for me. Great narrative foils

There was not a single scene where Tommy, drunk and crying wildly, expresses all his pain about his feelings for Grace, about his guilt, about regret or something like that. Even alone with himself.

Immediately after the funeral, the family communicates with Tommy as if It's like just his favorite horse just died, and it's time for him to return to normal life, get down to business.

Even later, when Mosley shows up, he sees Grace's portrait and photos everywhere, but he never tries to talk about it with Tommy, even casually, just to hurt his feelings. Not a word! Arthur or Ada could also touch on this subject of the portrait, his memories, that he still lives in the past, but no, not a word either! This is very strange to me. I think it's so natural, humanly speaking, to talk to a close person about him pain and worries. In the series, they found time to show how Arthur suffers without Linda, and how Tommy makes every effort to reconcile them. Why had Arthur never been interested in Tommy's suffering?...Unfairly. Even in the scene when Tommy tells Ada that he saw Grace alive on the barge, how his eyes are burning at that moment, all his emotions on his face, you can see how much it is still alive for him. But even here, Ada doesn't try to talk to him about it. She reduces it to opium. She could have asked just, "do you still love her?" and we would have heard how he still feels about her, a certain moment of truth.

It could be framed in the form of memories, dreams, conversations with Charlie about her....We can explain this by saving scenario time, but there are so many scenes in the film when Tommy silently smokes and drinks that it was quite possible to accommodate a few seconds of his thoughts.

I find an explanation for this only in the weak dramatik elaboration of the script and and disrespect for the viewer, who has to figure out a lot for himself. The author's too much focus on overly complex symbolism than on simple human feelings and relationships.
