His “false color” satellite depictions of hurricanes in the US draw you in to look even closer. The level of detail is astonishing. I was blown away. Small Victories... Diamond Stingily is an American artist, writer and poet. Her NGV Triennial work, “In the middle but in the corner of 176th place” (the address of her childhood home), is an installation of more than seven hundred athletic trophies displayed on metal shelving. At first glance, the trophies look like those typically given to participants of conventional competitions at awards ceremonies for achievements in sports, music, academics, or for talent shows, and beauty pageants. The woman's image was inspired from an actual photo of a slave. The painting itself depicts the capitalization of how white people used black women, men and children to build this country on free labor, and still treated them as the "lesser".
