look I got so frustrated, I wrote a quick ending to it just for my own satisfaction. The fic was orphaned about 5 years ago and I can't even find the author on here to beg them to update it.

Virgil wrapped his arms around Thomas, snuggling into his chest on the sofa. Thomas' scent was like a candle, soft and caressing. Virgil could feel the warmth emanating from Thomas' body and seeping into his; it was fulfilling, like a warm bowl of soup. Flicking his eyes open, he caught a glimpse of Thomas' face, smiling back at him. Virgil gently stroked Thomas' back, his t-shirt feeling like satin. Thomas stroked Virgil back.

I have a headcanon thing where Virgil and Thomas are together but Virgil is still just a side.
-He can only manifest and be corporeal in Thomas' apartment.
-The rest of the time he is just in Thomas' head but also sometimes he can appear in mirrors.
-Virgil believes Thomas needs privacy and personal time to himself too ....which is hard to accommodate when you live in your boyfriends head and are a part of him.
So when Thomas goes out with friends Virgil simply stays in his room or wherever in the mindpalace and does his own thing.
-Virge lowers his effect slightly to let Thomas have fun and chill, unless he feels an adrenaline spike, he is still tuned into Tommys cortisol levels at all times..... but its more like a security guard that should be watching the monitors but his chair is turned away and he got busy playing Animal Crossing and now isn't paying a lick of attention. lol
-Thomas can NOT tell anyone he is dating his sense of Anxiety bc someone would come take him away to those places with the grippy socks and the huggy coats so they find it is best to keep this to themselves.
- I have toyed with the idea of Joan knowing and just condoning it. Like they aren't 100% sure they believe him but also its whatever. Like whatever man you do you...literally . Thomas is their best friend, and he might be coo coo for coco puffs OR he might be telling the truth but Joan kinda just figures that is Thomas business and if Thomas is happy and healthy then cool bro.
- But so far I have only written one story with this AU and no other living person knew in that story so... idk.
-Now obvi the other sides know and are on board with it. Logan isn't sure it is healthy but...I mean who's to say what is and isn't healthy anymore? Some people eat drywall, the earth is on fire and honestly as long as Thomas seems happy and stable who is Logan to judge?
-That said, since they can't tell anyone Thomas friends do try to set him up with people sometimes, also he is a fairly popular internet celebrity and a young single guy in a college town with an god given ass so yeah he gets hit on...a lot. He just politely turns them down nicely and goes about his business.
- Normally people back off but on the rare occasion If they want to be persistent or get grabby Virgil does have the ability to kind of push Thomas away from the helm and take over entirely via kicking into 'fight or flight' mode. It is basically like him just possessing Thomas almost like they switch places briefly?
-Virgil isn't super possessive to an unhealthy extent but he can get jealous and possessive at times just like everyone. He loves leaving marks on Thomas in make out sessions though it is kind of a moot point bc no real people can see the marks. Thomas can see them though, and feel them, sometimes for days after they are put there. He kind of likes Vee's playfully rough side.
- Certain things can be seen though, like writing a V on your boyfriends face with marker and waiting to see if he notices before he leaves the apartment to meet people. ((spoiler alert, he doesn't notice. IE the picture above))
-Virgil isn't above a practical joke every now and then. He also jokes he is just keeping Thomas' improv skills sharp when Thomas has to explain to his friends why the big red V is there. (by lying... V: don't say I never did nothing for you you stupid snake)
-Thomas is a good sport about it but he also might be a tad petty and not look both ways before jaywalking across a street just to mess with his anxiety a tad.

Could read 1 million stories about Virgil wanting to sleep next to Thomas to protect him or Thomas choosing to stay right next to Virgil so Virgil knows he is safe and can get some sleep.
but for the interest of plot one day I would like to read a cute story that turns a little crazy bc while Virge is sleeping next to Thomas all curled around him protectively..... something DOES happen.
Someone is trying the handle downstairs, Thomas phone gets a ring update of someone creeping around his apartment patio. When there's no time to flight I would like Thomas to just step back and let Virgil fight. Just Virge/Thomas grabbing something heavy and beating the stuffing out of someone. I want to actively watch Virgil protect him. I want Thomas to see he means it. Virgil doesn't just mean it in a endearing jokey 'ily man I would totes beat someone up for you lolz.' kinda way.
Virgil/ Thomas looking at each other both with bloody noses and cut cheeks but the intruder is laying at their feet. heaving breaths and shaking hands and Thomas knows when Virgil says "my job is to protect you" he fucking means he will fight to the death for Thomas. full stop. I got you till our dying breath, I love you so much they wont TOUCH you.
