I love to see good dancers performing. For most (including JHope, JK), I saw them danced and I thought : what a good dance, what a good dancer, what a good body proportion, what a good song.. and enjoyed their performance.

But whenever I see Jimin dance, somehow it's not the same. I usually go through some stages. Especially for his contemporary ones.

Stage 1 : the first time I see his certain performance. Eyes glued to him and him only. I dare not to blink too much. Fully captivated, completely in awe. My eyes try to capture all his movements, my mind blank. Once he finished, then I remember how to breathe normally again. Wow! What an art!

Stage 2 : I always rewatch immediately, usually more than 3 times. And rewatch again for the whole day. The first 3 times after the first one, I try to look into different parts of the dance. To see the other dancers (if any), the decor, lighting, costumes, anything involved. Try to understand what he wants to convey. Because he ALWAYS has something to tell, a story to be shared. And most of the times, they are not straightforward. The more you look, the more you see something new. His brain!

Stage 3 : After so many rewatches, then I find my favorite parts, or moves, or expressions of that performance. And after, everytime I rewatch it, I will focus on and enjoy those parts more.

Jimin and his performance is one entity for me. My brain somehow doesn't differentiate him and his performance. It's one entity for me. He and his performance is an art. His body, his movement, expression is what builds the performance. All work together to tell a story. He embedded himself to it.

And I miss it so much. I miss to have those experiences again.

barefoot on a rooftop. city behind him. golden hour turning concrete into something consecrated. and he moves through every level of the space like he's making an argument. wide and grounded, then lunging, then kneeling, hands still reaching upward even when his body is at its lowest point.

and those hands. those hands. there's a precision to them that shouldn't coexist with that much softness, fingers articulating something delicate in one moment, then the whole arm becomes a force, a weight, a push. delicate and powerful in the same breath, sometimes in the same gesture.

the transitions are crisp. you feel the beat land in his body before you consciously register the music. but then the movement opens. and suddenly it's water, it's continuous, it has no hard edges anymore. he's found the place where rhythm lives inside the body rather than on top of it. the music becomes something else entirely in this context. something personal. the arrangement breathes, and he breathes with it, and you stop watching and start feeling the music through him.

that's not choreography. that's vocabulary. the specific language of someone who has spent so long in a body that the body has become articulate. #ThisIsJimin

he's been showing us this for years. then before military service, before the waiting. he left us gifts. a tag, a promise, a definition written in movement. different songs, different styles, different floors and different light, but always the same truth running underneath like a current:

that music enters him and is transformed. that somewhere between the sound and the body, alchemy happens.

this is what it looks like when someone is made for something. not trained into it, though the training is immaculate, but called to it. constituted by it. the music doesn't just move through him. it finds its truest form in him. joy becomes the particular lift of a wrist. longing becomes the way a transition slows just before it resolves. and we feel it, not because we're watching, but because he has made us present inside the emotion itself.

a dancer. an interpreter. someone in whom art and soul have become the same thing, indistinguishable, inseparable.
