Thanks @water-writings for tagging me! I have no idea what the rules are, but Iâll do my best!
1. Do you write fanfictions or original stories and did you ever write fanfiction?Â
I write more fanfiction than I do original stories. I have multiple ideas for original stories, but I always talk myself out of starting them. Iâm hoping to be able to have the courage to actaully start them.
2. Did you ever write your stories in the middle of class instead of paying attention?Â
When I was in middle school and high school, absolutely! I would write quick ideas and write a quick scene before I lost it.
3. How many notebooks do you have filled with your writing?
Ooof, thatâs a tough question. I havenât started writing my stories strictly on my laptop until recently. So, I went through notebook after notebook after notebook. And then for the fanfics, I would type it up and add more to it. My original stories that I started when I was younger are in storage in very old notebooks and the others are saved in a file for Microsoft Word.                   Â
4. Whatâs your favorite way to write? Notebook, Word Doc, Google Docs?
All of them, to be honest. I used to handwrite them all out and then transfer it over. It was a process that I used to keep my ideas straight and then I would fix or add to it when I typed it up. Of course, thatâs not very effecient, so I just type it up. If I donât have my laptop, Iâll use my notes app on my phone.
5. Do you write by yourself or do you need people writing with you?
I typically write alone, but sometimes Iâll write with someone beside me just so I can fact check with them. I try to make my stories as believable as possibe. Especially when it comes to my original stories and my Call of Duty fanfic.
6. Have you ever cowritten with someone?
Iâve tried it once, and it didnât work out. It takes a lot of communication and setting expectations. Pretty much like a marriage, I guess, and when it goes wrong, youâre left saying âitâs not you, itâs me.â My best advice is to make sure you donât have creative differences and you set those expectations for the plot, the characters, and everything in between. It just wansnât my cup of tea.
7. Who do you bounce ideas off of?
Most of the time, I bounce them off of myself. Iâll write my ideas and then come back to it later. If I like it, Iâll keep growing it and adding to it. If I donât like it, Iâll either take it at a different angle or scrap it completely. Sometimes Iâll ask close friends here and there, but thatâs not often. My writing is very personal to me.
8. Have you ever taken an experience from your life and written it into a story?
A couple of times, yeah. Iâll even take some of my goals that I have and apply them to my characters. A lot of times itâs things I want to experience or Iâve already experienced, and if it adds to them without compromising them as the character Iâve developed, Iâll add it. For example: I really want a Jeep Rubicon and so Emma, my CoD OC, owns one. Iâm getting a faux hawk soon (and Iâve always wanted the courage to do it) so I wrote Veronica, my Batman OC, with one.
9. Favorite type of music to listen to while you write.
It depends on the story and scene Iâm writing at the moment. Most of the time, Iâm listening to my Halsey station on Pandora for my Call of Duty and Batman story. Iâm wanting to write an assassin story as well, and some of Halseyâs stuff gives me the inspiration I need for ideas. I actually have a character playlist that helps me channel what I need to write the character. I find it very useful and fun. So, Halsey, Panic! At the Disco, Olivia OâBrien, and some Post Malone. Five Finger Death Punch, Bad Wolves, Rise Against, and some other heavier stuff help me, too. Like I said, it depends on the story and scene.
10. Have you ever had anyone give you âadviceâ that hurt you and prevented you from writing for a while?
Oh, absolutely! I had (notice the past tense there) friend who had encouraged me and advised me with my fanfics. I would come up with ideas and they would shoot it down, and come back with their own. Which is fine, sometimes its good to have someone to bounce ideas off of and I understand that. My writing is no way perfect. But it was what kept me from writing my Batman fanfic for so long. I didnât feel confident in it enough. This person was a writer as well, and we had been friends for YEARS! If it couldnât keep their attention and my ideas had to constantly be changed, then maybe it wasnât a good idea to write it. One of the things I love to do is to make my characters on the Sims. I got inspiration to make my characters from my CoD. I sent them pictures and they had the audacity to say I didnât do my characters right. They had me second guessing my own story that I have been working on for 5 years. And not only that, put her own expectations on what those characters are supposed to look like. I took a step back and realized that there were times when they would try and input their own story in mine. Itâs why I had such a hard time writing. I could never keep the confidence and inspiration.Â
My word of advice: Never doubt your own writing or your gut! Like I said, itâs totally okay to discuss your stories and ideas to people! It also gives you a different perspective if youâre looking for one! Just make sure theyâre a positive support system!
11. Have you ever had fans of your writing pester to write a certain way?
Hmmmm. Thatâs a good question. I donât think so. Iâve had someone ask me to make a specific character for them. But I donât think Iâve had someone pester me to write a certain way. And if they did, I would ignore them. Itâs my writing, itâs my story, Iâll do it how I want. I know that Iâve had fans compliment on some of the ways I write characters and I think thatâs my strength when writing. Itâs the character development.Â
