Months passed since that day when you and Garrett broke up, and youâve repeatedly agreed to go out with your friends to a bar to try and meet someone. As of yet, youâve not even thought about starting a relationship again because you cannot bring yourself to let him go.
But it wasnât easy. The constant pressure from your friends and family to try just meet someone new was overwhelming. They didnât know that you were still having issues with learning how to live without him and the one thing you wouldâve done is gone to him because he made you feel safe and to settle your worries.
But nobodyâs ever replaced that feeling and you doubt they ever will because if Garrett Graham taught you one thing itâs that you can always rely on him for everything, big or small and whenever you need him to just be there for you. Now you canât go to him. You broke up with him, you caused the pain, self inflicted really.
And itâs killing you.
Garrettâs going through a similar thing. He canât sleep, he canât eat and he constantly stays back at the rink to try do anything but think of you. The only thing keeping him sane is hockey because itâs the only thing that that still keeps him feeling like heâs still with you, because you were at every game, cheering him on, supporting him. He goes and thinks of how he was just not enough for you to be truly happy and if he could go back in time, what he would do to change and do better for you.
You go on a few dates set up by friends to try and see if you can get over him. But every date, every hookup, every shared moment, isnât the same as the ones you share with the man you still love. Flickering lights are behind every âstatueâ of the person in-front of you, and with every flicker, brings memories of him. Good memories which go back in time to when you were happy. When they were with him.
Thinking back to one of those beloved memories, you go back to when Garrett just came out the shower and was so happy that he just won the frozen four. Youâve never seen him so happy after a hockey game, he usually kept his cool until you came back to him because he knew youâd be proud of how he performed out there. Heâs never had someone be proud of him before. Yes he has his fans, yes he has his team, yes he has his coaches, but they donât have one thing he has had. He has had You. His dad never cared that way about him before, but you were different.
He was leaning back against the headboard playing with your hair as you talked about your own day , yet his eyes never left you for a second. The conversation eventually led on to his gentle lips pressing against your neck, chatting about the future, and then the memory fades from there.
You were in class when you got the message off of Dean. He texted you saying that the house needed you to come over and help with something. The possibility of Garrett being there is incredibly high, but you put that aside and agreed. After all, you could have a normal conversation if you saw him right? Just act normally and everything will go smoothly.
When you got to the house however, there was nobody there but Garrett. Surprisingly he also didnât know you were coming, so stared at you like a deer in headlights when you walked into the kitchen.
You actually managed to talk to him, and cleared some things up around how the relationship ended. You both agreed to act civil when with the others, and promised not to try ruin day to day activities when you came over to the house. It wasnât fair on the others to be dragged into something they werenât involved in.
Time passed, and slowly but surely, the two of you decided to actually try again. Garrett made more time for you, took you out for date nights every friday without fail, and even took you to the rink to help you practice skating.
You understood he was busy sometimes and occasionally might not be able to do certain things with you. Yet you found it made you feel at peace, because you knew that at the end of the day he would be coming home to you. Knowing that he still holds you so close to his heart even after all the pain you caused it was something you didnât think twice not to take for granted.
When you kissed for the first time since the breakup, it was magical. He held you as if you were an angel sent from above, which to him you were, and after losing you, he was surely never letting you go again.
It was a permanent scar left on your lips, a burning secret you both tried to hold onto, but it came back to you. Letting go hurt, but what bloomed from past mistakes was something you were both going to forever cherish, and not treat like ghosts.
This love came back to you in the rare form of a boy whoâs destined not only for the bruins, but a boy who would always show you that you are the only thing he truly loves, and will one day make you his.
this love came back to me oh,oh,oh

warnings: idk man, angst, and it's really short sorry. lowkey gotta test the waters
Part I
You hadnât walked these streets in years, but somehow your feet still knew the cracks in the pavement.
Freeridge was smaller than you rememberedâor maybe your world had just gotten bigger. The years away had been filled with new cities, new faces, clean breaks and new opportunities. But no matter how far you ran, the ghosts of your past had a way of following you home. Especially the one with deep brown eyes and a crooked smile that once held all your secrets.
Now, you were back. Not because you wanted to be, but because life had a funny way of circling back when you least expected it. A teaching position had opened up at a new dance academy on the edge of town, and you'd said yes before your brain could remind you of all the reasons you shouldnât.
You hadnât seen Oscar Diaz, or Spooky, as many had come to know him, in ten yearsâfour if you counted from when he got out. But the last real memory you had of him was sharp and ugly, carved with words that never shouldâve been said.
âYou really thought I cared about you like that? Donât flatter yourself, Y/N. You were just a warm body.â
You had cried for weeks. You couldn't believe the boy you had come to know as your best friend, and had trusted with something you considered so important, would reduce you to âjust a warm bodyâ. So naturally, you packed your bags and left Freeridge like it was burning behind you.
You stepped out of the corner store, holding a bottle of water and a small pack of gum, only to freeze as you nearly collided with someone walking in.
Tall. Warm skin. A gold chain with a distinctive cross in the middle catching the sun. Tattoos peeking out from under a black chefâs jacket. Your heart stopped when you realized who it was.
For a second, time folded in on itself.
His eyes locked onto yours, and something flickered across his faceâshock, then softness, then guilt so raw it made your throat tighten. He opened his mouth to speak, but you stepped aside, brushing past him without a word.
You made it halfway down the block before you realized your hands were shaking.
Inside the store, Oscar stood frozen, heart pounding harder than it had in years.
He hadnât just imagined you. It wasnât a dream. You were really hereâsame piercing stare, same Y/H/C curls pulled back into a loose bun. Older now. Stronger somehow. Like life had tried to bend you and failed.
He hadnât expected to see you like thisâno warning, no buildup. One second he was coming in to grab a bottle of Topo Chico before work, and the next you were there, standing in front of him like a memory he never stopped needing.
He wanted to chase after you. To explain. To make the most of the opportunity and tell you that every word he said back then was a lie meant to protect you. That heâd hated himself for it every damn day in prison. That you were the one thing he thought about when everything else went dark.
But you hadnât even looked at him. Not really. Just that cold flicker of recognition, then nothing.
He swallowed hard, forcing himself to breathe.
This wasnât how it was supposed to happen. He was supposed to find you when he had the right words. When he was more than just a ghost from you past. But fate didnât wait for perfect timing.
You were back, su estrellita. And he'd be damned if he let you slip away again.
