saddest girls in the world
Kenobi series: Obi-Wan finds a young dark sider and helps bring her back to the light
Shadow Lord: Maul finds and young Jedi and is bringing her into darkness
there's this undercurrent of misogyny any time someone tries to contemplate reva sevander's (& now more recently devon izara's) place in the galaxy post-defection where they essentially send fido to the hidden path farm, superimposing this nurturing character onto a woman who spent the formative years of her adolescence a prideful hunter in the company of fellow consummate killers. a post-imperial reva should be whetting her blade for coin on imperial stragglers, not changing force-sensitive diapers on tanalorr.

Was talking about this on discord yesterday but could you IMAGINE if the Kenobi show hadn’t decided that yellow contact lenses were too expensive or whatever the fuck and had given Reva the yellow Sith/Dark side eyes??
The POTENTIAL. Having her start off with the yellow eyes would underscore the fact that, for all her good intentions, she has Fallen to the Dark Side and is doing far more harm than good in the name of revenge. But then, throughout the series, as she starts to doubt and feel the pull towards the Light—when she touches the Jedi symbol in the Path tunnel or in her conversation with Leia, maybe her eyes soften for a moment and you can see brown in them. When she tells Obi-Wan about her past, as she begins to relive the memories of the Temple Massacre, the camera zooms into her eyes and they turn brown, and it’s left unclear if that’s actually her eyes turning back for a moment, or the eyes of her younger self from before they turned.
We don’t get another good look at her eyes until after the duel with Vader, as she lies bleeding on the ground. They’re back to yellow as she uses her rage and anger to survive her wound and begins to plan revenge by killing Luke. They stay yellow, not wavering once her entire time on Tatooine, until she corners Luke. It’s too dark to see her eye color as she raises the blade.
And then, when she returns with Luke and looks up at Obi-Wan, crying, we finally see her eyes, fully, unambiguously, naturally brown for the first time. Wouldn’t that be an AMAZING way to end the season? But no. That would have been too cool and interesting

Finally finished watching Obi Wan Kenobi again and I can give you my thoughts no one asked for as someone watching star wars in its entirety in chronological order!! 😁
I love this Leia so much. I love that they decided to add to her character and yet again see Obi Wan be so stressed by yet another Skywalker. I don't understand why so many people had an issue with a literal child? She does such a good job at being a bit insufferable and adorable at the same time, honoring her father, but what I love most is that they didn't forget Padmé 😭😭😭😭 and Leia displays her leadership traits from her mother too and Obi Wan makes it a point to mention her 🥲 Vivien Blair honestly does such a good job as a child actor, she, for me, captured the sassiness of Carrie Fisher so nicely, she was strong so strong and I loved her interactions with McGregor's Obi Wan a lot!!
The Reva plotline, it did feel a bit predictable, but it worked really good in the context of the show and again, I don't get the Reva hate, I think it might be a sad case of racism and misogyny 😀 because sadly there's a lot of those ppl in the star wars fandom despite Star Wars standing for the complete opposite. Moses Ingram had this sadness in her face all throughout the show that just made me empathize with her character despite everything which to me it's quite admirable. And her last scenes with Luke, really broke my heart for everyone involved, her included because she reminds me of Maul in a way that she was just a pawn in a game that she thought she had control over, even if her backstory was predictable, it was still so sad and I liked it.
The only thing I think is a valid critique is the Inquisitors designs... I LOVE the designs of the Inquisitors, although I haven't watched rebels, I knew of the design of the Grand Inquisitor (which is just a redraw of Clone Wars Season 3, The Son, which I like a billion times better 🫢) but omg why do they look cheap? Why are their colors so opaque??? Why does star wars have an issue with painting green ladies properly? (Hera Syndulla in Ahsoka, Vernestra in Acolyte) The fifth brother specially I feel he looks so stiff too and it's hard to believe they're like these great warriors. They are cool in the plot but the design, or maybe it's the materials they used? The weathering (I think is the right term?) is so poorly done, idk, I love them as concepts, I don't like them as much in live action, sorry 💀
Ok but really what we've all been waiting: the Obikin of it all ✨ so I watched obi wan when it originally came out, I had been a very casual star wars fan watching just the movies and the mandalorian really, not even clone wars (🤦🏻) so this time around, having watched since The Acolyte, watching clone wars, bad batch, EVERYTHING up until this moment, the Anakin and Obi Wan reunion hit me like a ton of bricks. It was devastating seeing Vader so fucking wounded, he's so pathetic, he is Anakin still and it doesn't matter how much he says "Anakin is gone" we know that the more he speaks it, the less true it is. We have Palpatine deadass being like... Dude are you alright? He's just a guy... And Vader being like omg I'm fine, he means nothing 🙄 while prioritizing Kenobi over the insurgents they have been hunting down for a year... I just LOVE that they showed him down bad like that, that level of pathetic, trashing everyone and a whole town just to have Kenobi back because he can't fucking move on 💀 he could have killed him in the fire, you know he could have spotted Tala (whom I also loved btw!) and ended her and having Obi Wan all to himself but he also can't bring himself to end him... And Obi Wan!!? He's just as down bad, even Roken told him that everything wasn't just to keep the people safe (which yeah, he's Obi Wan Kenobi, stellar Jedi, of course he wants to keep the people safe) but he wanted to see Anakin, and Anakin, not Vader, that's why he aims for the mask and omg one of the most beautiful fucking shots ever is that second duel of Obi Wan and Vader. Everything I didn't like before is saved by the creative choice of the overly saturated colors, the fact that you hear both Hayden's and James Earl Jones' voice omg that's so sexy and cool, I loveeeee that Hayden got a second chance to be Vader and he killed it, he owned it so good, the mannerism, the fights being a bit more choppy bc they're both old and beat up, and Anakin is now Vader, the suit... They made the transition from the prequels to the originals so good imo, I genuinely loved every second of Vader and Obi Wan together on screen, yes, including the throwback to Padawan Anakin, I thought it was cute and yes it made sense to have them think of that time, in fact, there was a lack of throwbacks bc i just know Obi Wan was thinking non stop to those teaching years so bad... But ok, yes I loved this a billion times more this second time around, this post is already long enough, off to Rebels now 🫡
