It’s been a fine winter, but I forget how I’m holding my breath until I exhale on the first days it stays above 40 degrees. My body releases its anticipation and my muscles soften in the warm bright sunlight. ~ I’ve always been apprehensive about accepting winter as a means to more deeply appreciate spring, that stoic go-down-to-add-value-to-up (new-England?) thinking, but after 19 years up here, I think I’m starting to understand. There’s layers and layers of life lessons in this simple cyclical existence, here for the taking. ~ Snow thaws. Buds form. Friends start coming around, making plans, carefully encouraging me to leave my house to, yes, even in the dark to go dancing.
