The highlight of changing out the rear Thick Slick (admittedly sooner than I expected, thanks to far more downhill skidding and little to no braking these days) this weekend was spying the degree of wear on the section of tyre. I pulled it once I saw increasing balding on the tyre each day over the week, figuring I didn't have long with that rubber... it didn't breach to the fiber wear, but it was close. But I was surprised to find that the under-layer of kevlar in those heavy duty Thick Slicks was unperforated. Very impressive. Standard model tyres would have been pulling apart all the way through at that point.
I kind of figured using the heavy duty tyre in rear made little sense and would be a one time thing. Sure, flat protection is useful, but you know, with the rapid wear it seemed an expensive solution. I replaced this with normal Thick Slicks, for now, based on what I had on hand. But now we'll see how fast these will wear comparatively...
One thing I DO know... only one tube pinch this time. HA. That's a WIN.
