I am still randomly mad about Cinna's gloves.
In Catching Fire, Katniss gives a pair of Cinna's gloves to Gale and he throws them at her feet and says he doesn't want anything from the Capitol, which she takes to mean herself. (I actually don't think he meant it that way; I think he still thinks of her as district but that is part of the problem. The Capitol and the Games have changed her, whether he likes it or not and going back to "how it was" is not possible.)
I think this was probably foreshadowing Gale's all of nothing mentality that ultimately kills Prim. I actually do not know how much Katniss has told Gale about Cinna. But he has:
Chosen her and asked for 12
Made her stand out with the fire outfits and helped with her interview
Helped Haymitch make sure she wasn't surgically altered
And he's a basically doing her homework for her by doing her "talent" for her
Also generally been her friend. A man who is about to sacrifice himself to make her a symbol of the rebellion.
But Gale hears that the gloves were Cinna's but he is like "ugh gross." (He says he doesn't want anything from the Capitol which is kind of ironic because he is then whipped and Madge has to bring him her mother's medicine... from the Capitol.)
I also wonder how Katniss got the gloves. Did she just ask Cinna? (Most likely.) Or did she smuggle them out somehow? I mean what are the victors allowed to take? I doubt it's an unlimited amount of things that aren't made specifically for them? (Did that make sense?)
I think the victor's getting a whole new wardrobe is to set them apart from the district--much like the victor's village. So in that case the clothes from the Capitol would be strictly for them. Not friends and family necessarily. (Like if Prim wants a new dress, let's say. Does she get it from the dressmaker in 12 or can Katniss have Cinna make something? I feel like the former is more likely.)
I think the gloves had to belong to someone else if order for Katniss to get them. And she thinks of Cinna as totally unobjectionable (as I do).
And if Gale doesn't know that she considers Cinna to be her friend, is he really her "best friend"? Like what do they talk about? Did they just go back to talking about the snare lines and shit? Does she say nothing about the games to him?
I have so many questions.
