A violin, a car, and a gun are the key players in these three films. I watched ‘The Red Violin’ (1998) last night which follows a violin from its creation in Italy in 1681 across three continents and three centuries – showing the lives it touches along the way. It reminded me of ‘The Yellow Rolls-Royce’ (1964) which tells the story of three different owners of the same vehicle, though over a much shorter period (mainly 1930s & 40s). Following this theme of a connecting object I was reminded of Winchester ’73, which follows the journey of a limited edition rifle in the late 1800s, and discovered two films I have never seen – ‘Tales of Manhattan’ (1942), about a coat, and perhaps the earliest example; ‘Adventures of a 10 Mark Note’ (Germany – 1926). Can you suggest any others? I enjoyed ‘The Red Violin’, the music (which won an Oscar) is wonderful and the first two acts are very powerful. Thank you to @brooklynfilmfanatic for bringing it to my attention and @planetmanny for endorsing the recommendation. It’s on Amazon Prime in the UK. . . . . . . . #Violin #TheRedViolin #Italy #TheYellowRollsRoyce #Winchester73 #Rollsroyce #winchesterrifle #TalesofManhattan #Adventuresofa10MarkNote #Germanfilm #Oscar #AmazonPrime #redviolin #violonrouge #filmfan #moviebuff #cinema #movietrope #maguffin #movietheme https://www.instagram.com/p/CCDRdjAl8Vv/?igshid=4eeg265feme5
