Our little 6-year-old Finley is showing signs of being quite the skilled martial artist. She did her first belt test on Sunday, after which a trio of Sensei told us she’s a candidate for another program designed for kids that have the potential for greatness. We’ve been told that on a first belt test, kids usually get two, maybe three stripes... Finley got four. There’s only five and then she becomes a red belt. She was nervous and even cried before doing the test in front of a live audience (no photos allowed), but she nailed it. While the benefits of martial arts (karate, for our girls) are many, I do have one very specific desire: that if anyone ever lays a hand on these girls, they’ll be able to defend and defeat any enemy or assailant in physical combat.
