The Rider
This is a continued post, to see the other posts click #BirthStoneTruth These posts tell the lore of birthstones before they were changed by the corporate jewelry store chains in the early 1900's. This post is for the month of January & the Capricorn Zodiac Sign. It has been often believed that Garnet was the birthstone for January babies. This still proves to be correct; a stone that wasn't changed because it could be easily obtained. The different garnets offering different undertones of red was a selling point for these stores therefore it was an easy stone to keep. It was also profitable to keep this stone for January as it is the color of the New Year in many cultures. âąThe First True birthstone for January is Garnet. If you are a Capricorn born in December your second birthstone is Ruby and if you are a Capricorn born in January your second birthstone is again a garnet. This is the first but not the last time there is a double birthstone in the birthplate family. Those with a double garnet birthstone were often given a snake bone at birth. Their birthright is Animal Medicine and they weld that power more so than anyone. Each stone has so much to do w/ the birthright of each zodiac & each individual. It is the top of their birthplate & a part of a group of stones that can guide them through their life. Such tradition is sacred & it is sad that corporations changed them to suit higher profit margins. Tradition, lore, and our roots are all so sacred in my opinion and shouldn't be tampered with. âą #Birthstonetruth #Knowledge #Capricorn #January #WaterSign #Birthstone #Birthplate #Truth #garnet #ruby #snake #bone #animalSpeak #animalMedicine #TheRider #TheDriver #OldWays #lore #TalesOfSingles

Blog Post #2
I really enjoyed âThe Riderâ, it had a southern gothic vibe to it which is a genre I like; it reminded me of a book I read in high school âInvisible Manâ. I liked the environmentally conscious aspect of the book, although it was focused on jim crow and racism it also tied in land preservation. I believe the book had two separate messages. On the one hand, you have the karma/ you get what you deserve kind of message with the people who had âmurder in their heartsâ dying. On the other hand, you have industrialism coming in and trying to deforest this land with no regard to the people who previously lived there and in turn, the person in control of the bus ends up dying.Â
At the end of the story, the thoughts that the rider put in Patâs head slightly confused me. It explained that it was awakened due to the construction on the highway and that it wouldnât rest until its job of protecting the innocent from harm is fulfilled. I wonder if land preservation is one of The Riders goals or if that was a separate message in the book that just happened to be the means that the rider was introduced to the story through.
Of course I always like a happy ending for our protagonist in Black horrors and I enjoy that the sisters went their separate ways which further contributes to the karma message of the story. The sisters were trying to make a positive change for the black community and in turn found love while the people in the story that were hateful succumbed to their hate.Â
The movie US was another good one. This was my first time watching it and surprisingly I hadnât been spoiled by now. Based on Jordan Peele's Get Out, it wasnât what I expected. For some reason even though I think the movie was much more gruesome than Get Out it didnât give me the same anxious feeling I got from Get Out; it felt lighter. I think it was because some of the family members' directions after doing certain things was almost comedic, for example when the children took out the twin doppelgangers their reaction took the tension away.
I'm not sure if it was just me who was confused or me not wanting to think anything bad happened to a child but it wasnât clear to me that Adelaide and her shadow switched.
