hi res!! i love all your work, especially CRU! did you ever write about how dan reacted to finding out bruce was batman, or was he just as nonchalant as he was with clark?
I didnāt, but I plan to revisit it at some point for sure. I think Dan was smart enough to sense that something was going on with Bruce already, and it probably makes him feel good to know Lex has such a heavy hitter of an omega in his corner. He also has no problem submitting to pack leadership, so he wouldnāt be too disbelieving or disrespectful.
Heās also from Gotham. Very little shocks those folks! And Danās whole thing is being adaptive to anything, any task or scenario. I think secretly heās glad his mate doesnāt run around and put himself in danger like that all the time, even while pregnant. He probably appreciates Clark even more after the reveal. He probably wants to mother hen Bruce as alphas do, but is far too respectful to try. That being said, heās going to be moving extra carefully, looking for threats, filling in when Clark canāt be there. They donāt even need to discuss it, itās just a handoff as they both deal with their instincts. Clark canāt ban Bruce from going to Lexās court hearings, but he can trust Dan to be there with them.
Res your latest post about serial killer Alfred made me think abt family man and how much I love it!!! I think another re-read is in order!!!!!
Yesssss! I miss serial killer Alfred a bunch. Hoping to get back to that fic once this installment of the CRU is complete. Writing him has become a good brain stretch for me. Heās not your typical Alfred, even if he seems like it.
I hope you enjoy the reread š and thank you for reading!
WILL YOU EVER WRIRE ANOTHER DICKBABA FIC..??ā¦. AND CAN YOU ALSO RECOMMEND SOME OF YOUR FAVORITESā¦
Definitely! That series needs a third installment, no? š I am very very proud of that massage one.
That being said, I mostly wrote that series because I wasnāt finding the specific kind of fics I was into, so Iām not a great resource for recs, sorry!
looking for writing advise -- how do you deal when someone leaves a comment where they obviously misread or misunderstood something and it's changing their experience with your fic? or, the misunderstanding is changing their interpretation to be something you totally didn't intend or want for a reader to take away?
because, i have no clue how to reply. i feel like a huuuge jerk replying "um so actually, its (other thing) and not that, btw." or do i just ignore it because it's literally not that important and don't need to reply to everything? is there a secret third option?
The secret third option is evaluating how much their perception of the story matters to you personally. Are they incorrectly telling other people what your story is about? Are they recāing it as something itās not? That would be less about emotion and more about ensuring your audience/readers arenāt misled.
If itās limited mostly to them (and others arenāt falling into the same line of thought) then it again becomes a question of how much their perception matters to you. Will it affect your desire to write? Is it making you anxious? Are you worried the incorrect assumption is going to disappoint them later down the line?
I think whatās also important to consider is that art is often subjective. We as authors might have our minds set on what something means, but that doesnāt necessarily negate a competing theory.
Iāll give you an example: My fic āthose who pale in your shadowā ends with Lex Luthor convinced he has figured out who is funneling money to the Justice League, and the implication is heās about to try and unmask Bruce as that funder.
When I wrote that final scene, I intended for it to be ambiguous. Thereās no way to know for sure if Lex figured it out, just like thereās no way to be certain Bruce was cautious and sneaky enough like he mentioned to evade Lexās attention. There are hints for both endings, and given the story stops there, thereās no definitive answer. I liked that ambiguity so I left it that way.
When I posted that final chapter, I was surprised how quickly a large proportion of my readers immediately mentioned how Lex had figured it all out and Bruce was doomed. Similarly, there were some folks who were convinced no matter what Bruce had managed to keep himself hidden. No one clocked the ambiguity like Iād planned! Everyone wanted a definitive answer even if the story didnāt support it.
And I didnāt say a word either way, because you know what? Ultimately it didnāt matter to me. Both arguments were convincing and served as a bellwether for where the readers believed the story would proceed next. Their perception didnāt affect the core of the fic or their general understanding of the plot. It wasnāt what Iād planned or tried to show, but it still worked. It made a lot of sense. And it reminded me that my intentions for the story only go as far as whatās written; what people do with that content after ultimately isnāt up to me, and bar a few outlier cases, thatās okay. Fic writing is like art in a certain light. You can write a description and title on the little placards on the wall, but some people will look at the painting and fill in the blanks themselves. Itās how our brains work!
As for replying - if it makes you feel awkward and could potentially just cause more confusion, it might not be worth it. You donāt need to respond to comments and correct people out of some writerās obligation. Itās okay to let them be. No one will be upset, and if they are, they need to take a breath.
It can be hard not to feel defensive of our fics. It took me a long time to learn that lesson.

Ok wait so if "dad" and "carrier" are different in CRU, what would Bruce be addressed as by the pups, if dad is reserved for Alpha parents? Does gender play a role here? Jason calls Bruce dad in Bruce's flashbacks, but i take it that that was because Bruce was denying his instincts. I just wonder because what will the twins call Bruce and Clark, and what will Lex and Dan be called by their pup?
Yeah the dad/mom stuff is from the newer ānuclear familyā dynamics that replaced the pack system, or is currently replacing the pack system in the series.
I think theyāll have nicknames like āBā etc as all babies do, but since pack child rearing is so decentralized, I donāt think thereās as much fixation on one caregiver. Imagine raising a dozen pups in a pack and one cries out āMama!ā Youād have three omegas scrambling all at once trying to figure out if it was their kid, but then it wouldnāt even matter because everyone in the pack is mama or dad etc. Itās kind of like how Lex is helping to raise Jason as an omega alongside Bruce, Alfred, and Clark (and now with Dan too). You couldnāt strip those down easily to only two of them. Jason is Lexās pup sometimes, itās so obvious, even though no one has said it out loud yet.
Honestly, Iāve been trying to find alternatives, but my gut says theyād just use the names, like Jason already does. Bruce is Jasonās (adoptive) carrier, but heās not mom or mama. Heās not dad anymore either. Heās just Bruce (his carrier) - the title/connection is what defines it, not necessarily the name (mom, mama, etc) itself.
My fear with the gendered parental titles is that the universe itself eschews those unless youāre abandoning the pack/traditional structure entirely. Similarly, it forces our own version of what we think gender is onto omegas/alphas who donāt see themselves the same way. Calling Bruce āmamaā is for us, in a way. But it feminizes him and reduces his character as an omega to what we think a mom is, when, as weāve learned, a carrier is way more than a mom, just as a sire is way more than a dad.
In a way itās reductive when omegaverse is such an expansive and dynamic way for us to play with gender and stereotypical concepts of how children are born and raised. What I like most about writing this series is that their gender identities arenāt that rigid. The fics are already pulling double duty inverting traditional omegaverse tropes. So not only are we expanding on men being caregivers/traditional āfeminineā traits in universe, and how that doesnāt actually change who they fundamentally are as people, weāre also challenging the traditional structure of omegaverse fics where omegas ARE often put into strict gender roles (by dynamics). To me, omega just doesnāt equal mom, for many many reasons. Hence the challenge with finding a better termā¦
Hi Frowny! I've read all of your Batman fics multiple times and I adore your writing. So: I broke up with my bf who turned out to be toxic and really emotionally immature. Which fic of yours should I read to get him out of my head?
I think you should take it easy and spend some time disconnected with your family, friends, loved ones, etc. Itās okay to talk about it with them and itās okay to have heavy or complex feelings right now. Fanfiction can be a great distraction, but when you put down the phone, youāre in the same place as before.
Now, that being said. When youāre done with that, Iād recommend integral, straight back, borderline, gratitude, Mizpah, eye in the sky, lo and beholden, hold on loosely, those who pale in your shadow, interlude, or eminence front.
Iām sorry youāre going through a rough time. š„ŗš Iām glad youāre prioritizing yourself and your own wellbeing.
So other than being a submissive Omega do you have any headcannons for Talia's carrier?
Hmm, Iād need to do more thinking on that. I donāt know enough about her mother in canon to make an omegaverse parallel. In the context of the fic though, we can assume the carrier is dead/out of the picture and Raās probably didnāt view them in a romantic way (or if he did, not anymore) given how fixated he is on Bruce.
Iād like to think maybe Bruce during his training reminded Raās of Taliaās carrier in a way, which was why he spared Bruce and let him train + use the Pit. Just like joker, I do think thereās some compatibility there. Not enough for a full claim, but Bruce clearly responds well to powerful alphas on a biological level. The issue for Raās and Joker is, Bruce nabbed THEE most powerful alpha on earth. So itās hard to make a convincing counter claim, or to believe Bruce would survive that broken mating bond.
