I’ve been a bit MIA lately, school year kicking my butt. Been playing plenty of records, but posting about them has been low on a very long priority list… but I’ve got a moment to catch my breath, so I’ll feature one of my last summer acquisitions! Consolers of the Lonely is the second Raconteurs album, one that I enjoyed but didn’t give that much thought to when it came out. After I listened to it in my Jackathon in the leadup to Entering Heaven Alive, it grabbed me in a big way, and I started my obsession 14 years late! Every song hits. There’s rock, drama, Britpop vocal harmonies, and the sound is top notch. Someone was selling this gorgeous 10th anniversary Vault edition for a nice price on Facebook, so I snagged it. It’s been stuck in my head ever since. It has quickly climbed the ranks in my mind from a mid-tier Jack White album to what the kids are calling “S Tier.” (I had to Google it too.) #jackathon reaches 2008 and the Raconteurs’ second album. This one is much more sprawling than the first and it’s easy to get lost in it, but the songs are incredible. I finally got to see Jack live for the first time on this tour, which was incredible. I think my favorite moments on this album are the ones with the horn section—so cool! We’re also past the halfway point of our Jack White marathon, which means the new album is growing closer! Today’s #jackathon has reached the era of the side projects! I remember my excitement when this came out—a chance to hear Jack White in a rock band that wasn’t the White Stripes! They had a BASS PLAYER! As soon as I read about it my boyfriend (now husband) and I drove straight to Wherehouse Music for the CD. It soundtracked much of that summer on my iPod competitor Creative Zen, especially my orientation session at UT Austin, simultaneously one of the most anxiety-provoking and exciting weeks of my life. And later in the semester the guy behind the counter at Amy’s Ice Cream gave me a free topping for recognizing one of their songs on the store radio. As much as I love that old CD, the master quality version on Tidal is revelatory… makes me want the vinyl even more. #superfriendssunday this week is A Soundtrack for Your 18th Summer by @girlgonevinyll I remember the summer of 06 so well—that uncomfortable time between high school and college, not sure what was coming for me when it was over or what to do about it. And I remember reading in Rolling Stone about The Raconteurs and immediately running to Warehouse Music with my boyfriend to pick up the CD. Jack White’s first music outside the White Stripes! He has a BASS PLAYER! Are the White Stripes over???? The music did not disappoint and soundtracked my trip to orientation at UT on my Creative Zen MP3 player. Phenomenal show tonight from the frenetic master of controlled chaos himself…@officialjackwhite My son and I had a great time. I recall a few years back in his early years with @sorsanramon he participated in a Jack White show and everyone was blown away by his stage presence. I think that show made performing real to him. It’s been so incredible to share music with him for the past 17 years…yeah, he went to his first concert in the womb at @shorelineamp Iron Maiden and Halford! We’ve got a few more shows lined up in the coming months, but I’ll be listening to Jack White’s many projects and @thekills for awhile!
