I love you characters so shaped by war that peace would itch under your skin. I love you characters so steeped in violence that the only mercy the narrative could find for you was to kill you before the happy ending.

Boromir Week, Day 4: Teenage years, Friend of Rohan
I think it's likely that Boromir and Theodred were good friends, in which case he'd have met the prince's younger cousins. Today's headcanon, as we've explored in length before, is that Boromir is lowkey terrified of Eomer.
@boromir-week
Boromir is the "heir" to a diminishing Gondor, Theodred is the heir to a suppressed Rohan... Aragorn the heir to Gondor and the man to restore faith in men wearing Boromir's arm braces and riding Theodred's horse after they both die... somethingsomething something
My art (#5) for @tolkienrsb 2025, in collaboration with @lady-of-ithilien!!
Ft. Theodred, his little cousins, and some scary stories about the forests that border Rohan! Here's the Fic!!!-> [Link] :)

Sometimes I forget that (one of) my favorite parts of the Two Towers film-- which is Theodred's funeral and everything surrounding Theodred's death is just NOT in the book.
In the movie, everything surrounding his death just adds so much depth to every character around him-- not to mention is a wonderful catalyst and a tone setter for the dark times that Rohan was in!
Finding Theodred so mortally injured heightens Eomer's urge to fight back. Eowyn's sorrow grows as she gently begs her uncle to go to his dying son. Her genuine grief when she bears witness to Theodred's passing, a man whom she might have thought of as a brother for the majority of her life. Theoden's genuine despair when he wakes from his spell and realizes that his son has not only died, but has already been buried. Even Grima's stark indifference and sinister manipulation is amplified by how he treats Theodred's passing.
It just adds so much to the story. It's so good. Rest in Peace, Theodred. Good job haunting the narrative. Even if it is mostly the films.
do you ever think about how in the two towers when eomer finds theodred he knows instantly that theodred is still alive and he still has hope that he can be saved and then thoedred still dies, but in return of the king eomer has lost so much that when he sees eowyn on the battlefield he instantly thinks she's dead because he doesn't have any more hope in the people he cares about surviving
cause i think about it
(and the fact that eomer doesn't know that theodred is dead until later and because of that he doesn't go to the funeral)
Bracing myself for a winter storm by hanging out in Rohan for a bit...
