you hated choi taeyang. you hated his stupid, sly smile—the one he'd flash you after saying something coy, and the infuriating way he would run his fingers through his hair like he knew exactly what it did to you. every little habit of his had a way of getting under your skin until he was all you could think about.
you hated that you still knew all his little habits.
you hated that, even after everything, you could still pick him out of a crowded room without trying.
and you especially hated that tonight, you'd be sharing a bed with him.
"you have got to be kidding me…" you groaned as your eyes boring into the bed. you could almost feel the energy radiating off of it.
taeyang glanced up from where he was unpacking his bag with a raised eyebrow. "whats the issue now?"
you pointed toward the bed. the only bed. there was no other bed.
"there is no way I'm sleeping here with you." you grabbed your bag off the floor and headed toward the door. "maybe there's another room open."
but before you could reach the door handle, taeyang stopped you.
"the receptionist said this is the last room."
of course it was, just your luck, and the one bed wasn't one of the worst things about the hotel either. the worst part was taeyang.
"then i'll walk to another hotel."
taeyang gave you a doubtful look, the kind that made it obvious he didn't believe you would actually do it.
"what?" you asked, caught off guard by the way he was looking at you.
"you know it's raining, right?"
as if on cue, heavy rain poured against the glass, the sound filling the silence between you. the streetlights outside blurred against the wet pavement.
of course it was raining, because apparently the universe wasn't satisfied enough with making you share a room with your ex. it had to make sure you couldn't escape, either.
you didn't have the energy in you, or the patience to argue with taeyang. he obviously wasn't going to let you leave, considering the weather conditions and how late at night it was. so you caved.
"fine," you muttered, dropping your bag onto the floor. "i'll stay." you shot him an icy glare. "happy now?"
"not really." he answered so quickly it almost sounded honest. but you knew it wasn't, you had heard from friends he still talked about you, still took care of old stuffed animals you left at his apartment, and still kept some of your old clothes in pristine condition. but it wasn't like you cared.
but before you could snap back, he reached into his backpack and tossed something to you.
you caught it instinctively and turned the small foil packet in your hands. in big letters on the top it read "painkillers"
taeyang zipped his bag shut without looking up and simply said- "arguing always give you headaches."
you gritted your teeth. how did he remember? why would someone who pretended not to care so much actually care? and why did a small part of you feel relieved that he did? you shoved the thought away immediately. because, again, it wasnt like you cared. not after everything, not after the way things ended. not after how he treated you during your relationship, never putting effort into spending time with you.
but right now wasn't the time to get in your feelings, you had to focus on how you were gonna share the bed. you scoffed and shoved the packet into your shorts pocket.
"you can have the edge." you said.
taeyang smiled at you. the stupid sly one that you pretended to hate so much. "that's generous." he quipped.
you rolled your eyes. "if you don't shut your face, you will be sleeping on the floor."
he nodded and sat on the bed, pulling off his t-shirt with the same careless ease like he always used to.
your cheeks warmed up and you immediately turned your head away. you had seen him shirtless countless of times before, but this felt different.
it felt gross, like you weren't supposed to be seeing it. almost invasive, even. this wasn't something new, so why did it feel like it?
"you don't have to look away you know." taeyang murmured, his rough voice pulling you from your thoughts.
"this isn't even half of what you've seen of me." he chuckled, the sound of his laugh died fast.
taeyang looked down at the shirt in his hands before going silent. it felt like his world stopped, he didn't have anything to say. the room suddenly felt smaller and more closed off around the two of you. it looked like reality just hit taeyang.
you had seen more of him than this. you had seen him at his happiest and his worst. you had seen him half-asleep, sick, frustrated, and exhausted. you had seen every version of him that he never showed anyone else.
the silence thickened between the two of you before you finally broke it, clearing your throat.
"i'm gonna go change." you said, grabbing your clothes from your duffel.
you headed to the bathroom, and by the time your hand was on the doorknob a familiar voice echoed throughout the small room.
"you still have trouble falling asleep when you're stressed?"
your hand froze around the doorknob, you instantly turned to face him. dropping the clothes immediatley you made your way to where he was sitting on the bed, and before either of you could say anything, you kissed him.
instead of pushing you away taeyang kissed back, his lips gliding against yours with the same practiced ease as before.
his hands slid up the sides of your baggy shirt, cupping your breasts. but instead of deepening the kiss he pulled away first. he stared at your parted glistening lips, but before you could go back for more he placed a finger on your lips.
"why did you do that?" he asked quietly, still rubbing up and down your waist with his other hand.
"i dont know.." you muttered.
you truly didn't. maybe it was because you were so sick and tired of his pretty face, or maybe you just wanted him back.
taeyang looked at you for a long moment before letting his hand fall away.
"if we keep doing this," he said quietly, "we're just going to hurt each other again."
your chest tightened and your throat ached. you needed him so so bad. you were so sick of pretending like you hated him when in reality you just missed him.
"…unless we finally talk about why we ended." taeyang whispered.
neither of you spoke and the rain outside gradually got louder with each droplet that fell from the clouds.
"tomorrow." he whispered with a kiss to your collarbone. "
