In designing [Monica's] suit, Visual Development Concept Artist Anthony Francisco took initial inspiration from the comic book Monica's classic monochrome Captain Marvel appearance, as well as more recent redesigns that have followed in its wake. "I wanted the suit to reflect some of that original design language, but with a more modern look. Exploring the star on her chest was a lot of fun. I tried many different designs [...] [the final design is] like a blooming flower, where each petal supports the others. Carol Danvers has a streamlined new look that reflects her status and recent experiences. [...] Carol knows enough now that she doesn't need the same levels of protection she wore previously. The new suit is pretty much a "complete retool," according to [Brie] Larson. Whereas before, the Captain Marvel costumes have been made out of multiple pieces of hard material—"quite a complex situation to put on"—they're now more comfortable and straightforward. [Visual Development Supervisor Andy Park said] "she is no longer a soldier [...] "she needed to have that iconic Captain Marvel suit, but more relaxed. She's obviously always been confident, but she's even more confident now she's at home, living on her ship.
