This was the very first drawing of her, her name is Vika and I love her. She’s a spunky, rebellious 19-year old with a passion for helping people. She lived in Royland, home of technological innovation and strong warriors, and she was the daughter of the Captain of the house guard. Vika spent her whole life vigorously training under her father and trying to live up to his unreasonably high expectations for her. That is, until she met Callum when they were both 14 years old.

They met when he broke into the castle (where she lived) and she caught him. Instead of turning him in, Vika took pity on him and brought him a meal. This became a pattern for them; she would sneak out or he would sneak in and they’d eat together. Callum told her stories of what life was like outside the castle and Vika realized something needed to be done to help the people there. She tried to talk to her father, Taron, but he refused to help, saying that if the poor were struggling, they should just work harder. Vika realized that the system that was in place was not put there to help the people. The police force was corrupt, the homeless population was growing by the day, and people were starving to death no matter how hard they worked.

So, Vika and Callum decided to take matters into their own hands. They started stealing food from rich transports to give to the poorer communities. Vika fought off the cops who were antagonizing an old blind man on the street. They held rallies, provided resources, and were a symbol of hope to the people of Royland. Eventually, when Vika was 16, she ran away. She only had one friend in the castle, and it had started to feel more like a prison than a home.

For the next three years, life was good. Vika and Callum lived on the streets together, helping the people who needed them most. Vika dyed her hair, she and Callum got matching tattoos, and they were slowly but surely rebuilding the community. They started to hold more rallies and protests as a way to rebel against the system. It couldn’t last forever, though.

As time went on, their protests had gotten bigger, and in that had gained more attention. Before one of these, Vika and Callum broke into a military base to gather weapons for the people. The police force had gotten more brutal, and it was high time that the people had the option to fight back. At the next protest, they armed the people, but warned them that the weapons were only for emergencies and to defend themselves. The protest was going smoothly, peacefully, even, until the house guard showed up to join the police. At first they only shouted at the protesters to leave and arrested those they could, until Captain Taron caught a glimpse of Vika and swords were drawn. He tried to arrest her, and when she resisted and tried to run, he swung his sword at her in what would have been a killing blow.

Except…that’s when Callum arrived. He jumped in front of Vika, taking the blow for her. Protestors surrounded them, preventing Taron from getting to Vika as she grabbed Callum and ran to a nearby alley. She held pressure on his wound, trying to stop the blood loss for as long as she could. In his dying breath, Callum told Vika that it was up to her now. He believed that she could change the world and make it a better place. He died in her arms.

Two weeks after his death, Vika was making her rounds checking on the people of Royland, feeling like an empty shell of herself. That’s when she met Wren, standing directly in front of Callum’s family’s old house. He said Callum had told him about her. He told Vika that Callum was his cousin, and asked her if she’d like to join his friends and him on their mission. Vika was skeptical at first until Wren told her what their mission was: to stop an assassination attempt against Prince-Lord Gretsch of Royland…Vika’s only friend from inside the castle. She agreed to go with Wren to save Gretsch, and that is where Vika’s main story in The Last Dance begins.
