hey, so i almost never write here bc i mostly use tumblr as a certified reader BUT-

i've been reading the inheritance games books, here goes a rant about Gray, okay? feel free to tell why where i could be wrong.

I'm currently reading "The Brothers Hawthorne". I have so many thoughts. This post is about Grayson because I wanna talk about Jameson in another one.

First of all. As a Grayson girl, after i read TFG i was so sad, it left Gray in a really bad place mentally, i feel like it hasn't been really explored on TBH, but i'm still on character 39. I've been a Grayson girl since the start of the series, so i was pretty devastated when JBL decided to kinda throw his character thru a little window on book 3. I feel like I get Grayson in a big way. I understand why he got easily manipulated by Eve and i find it interesting how he knew deep down it was just bc she looked like Emily. Watching go thru this brought back a really traumatic time in my life and i was like: fuck, one really feels a void after being played like that. The thing is, we don't navigate into it with Grayson. I know the series is about Avery and will always be, but it would've been so cool.

On TBH, Sav is so much like Grayson he almost feels like watching a mirror, he feels the need to give her advices, he doesn't want her to end up like him. He knows how much pressure goes into having to play the perfect child, he knows how it feels to lose the one person you lived for. My favourite moment so far has been the Trowbridge Office Scene, when Sav wants to leave the Office to go to the party but Duncan insists on touching her. Grayson think "Get your hands off my sister." and it made me giggle ngl. He was born to be a sister's brother.

I'm going back a little but Grayson thinks "His heart wasn't broken. It couldn't be when keeping himself aloft took every once of focus he had". Being a Grayson girl since I started TIG, this line hit my like a fucking truck. I knew Avery and Jameson ended up together but I had a little hope. I feel like Grayson had a great connection to Avery the whole story, it was like they understood eachother in a whole other level. I didn't fall in love with Jameson as I did with Grayson, which might be a *me* problem. But still, I feel like we saw so much about Avery and Grayson it only made sense to me that they would end up together.

After the airplane bomb accident, Grayson feels guilty every day, not only because he thinks he failed Avery but because he saw Emily all over again. This is a guy who is in such a bad place mentally, he allucinates for 2 weeks Emily's voice. A guy who saves a little girl from drowning and thinks he failed because even if he saves the whole world, he didn't save Emily. A guy who let's himself fall to the floor infront of Avery and says he's broken, then leaves for Harvard without telling anyone.

On TBH, he's listening to Lyra talk about how his dad killed himself with her in the house. On her birthday. She says "A Hawthorne did this", and Grayson immediately feels guilty about it. He doesn't know her but he feels like he owes her something. To me this is a fucked up way to introduce a love interest LMAO. Grayson has never forbidden himself for anything, and you're putting him with a person who is gonna add to his guilt. Obviously, I don't know Lyra yet. But i just feel like they just won't be it for eachother. You could argue this is my AveryGrayson heart speaking, which could be truth, but also, am I in the wrong?

Grayson is not healed, he probably won't be for a long time. Does Jennifer thinks that time can heal someone? This book is a few months after TFG, and should be all just ignore how broken Grayson was on that book and assume it changed with time? Yeah, not it for me.
